I already feel like I'm asking guests to pay a lot to attend my wedding. Now that it'll likely be even more expensive with soaring airline costs/fuel costs, is it a more difficult request to make? I can see some people thinking it's just plain rude given the economy. I don't need everyone there, but am hoping most people can still afford to come. (No location confirmed yet, but will almost certainly be Playa del Carmen) Thanks!
Hi, I am moving this thread to the approprite sub-forum - please do not start every post in Riveria Maya just because that may be your location.
    Thanks,

There is some real belief in the investment community that following the Beijing olympics in August, the price of oil will drop. The theory is that China's efforts to prepare for the inflow of people, and the use of oil, gasoline and deisel fuels to accomodate both the infrastructure build up and the tourists themselves will drop to significantly reduced levels after the end of August when the olympic visitors have returned home.

If, in fact, China's oil and gas consumption goes back down (or close) to where it was pre-build up, there is an expectation that the price of crude could drop as much as 10-15%. If that happens, jet fuel prices will decline and, presumably, airline ticket prices will to.

I"m keeping my fingers crossed for you all!
I really hope that's the case Rebecca...thanks for the info.

I have also been concerned about the rising air prices and worried if some of the guests are thinking that we expect them to come (even though we made it very clear that we understand if they don't). But, I try to tell myself that those who really want to come, would come despite the difference in price...whether you're paying $1000 or $1300...would that really make a huge difference in your decision It's an expense either way. Also, I guess if less people come, the more money we save (but, I would still want as many people as possible :) )

          My thoughts exactly!

Becks, I hope the speculation is true!

well i am hoping to send my std out in October, that way my guests will have at least a year to plan plus if the prices go up next year they will have time to get tickets before that.

I'm nervous about this as well. I have not sent out STD cards yet, but I may just send them to people that I know will come regardless of the cost.

THANK GOODNESS FOR THIS POST...BC I'VE BEEN FREAKING OUT!

We planned on @ 80 ppl making the trip, now its barely 20-25 attending! ALot of people don't want to even book bc they aren't sure which airline is going to be around in December! Which I totally understand and is so disappointing. But people are worried if they book Frontier & they stop flights, then what happens?

Such a mess, really bums me out

We're considering just eloping now, instead of a DW. It was going to be expensive before for everyone to come, but now with the rising costs of airfare, it looks impossible. I'm actually a little happier with our decision. There's a lot less for me to worry about now :)
