First off my FI and I are snorkeling addicts and have been to Xel Ha twice and have LOVED it!!

We've heard a lot about Yal Ku Lagoon in Akumal too, and actually got a chance to see it, but never snorkel in it, a couple weeks ago. It was lovely and seemed just like a smaller version of Xel Ha and a lot less commercialized and expensive ~ $8 for the day opposed to the $60+ at Xel Ha.

Anyone ever been to Yal Ku? And if so, how is the snorkeling there? Is there lots of marine life?? How do the two compare?

Never been to Yal Ku....but I would go there in a heartbeat over Xel Ha. Just on the advice of people who I trust very much. Lots more to see, cheaper and a more relaxed environment.

To see some of the best snorkeling in the world (literally) head over to the main bay in Akumal. Lots of healthy coral, rays, sea turtles, fish galore and lots more. I can fill you in on the specifics and all that if you need it. Just PM me.

Hey Lambert ~ well I'm glad to hear that you've heard good things about Yal Ku. FI and I, and both our families were thinking of renting villas that have direct access to Yal Ku during our wedding week next year. So hearing your insight makes me excited for our plans!

We actually snorkeled in Akumal bay about 3 weeks ago during our site visit and again in 2005 for the first time. And you're right, the marine life at the main bay is spectacular! We even got to swim side by side with the turtles it was so awesome elefant.gif And what I like best is that you don't even have to swim far out to see everything!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
