This is the rub.

What is a digital negative?

What is a high resoloution image?

 

Always ask:

What format, what size (dimensions in pixels), what bit depth, what image size (MB)

 

High res to me is massive to you, and tiny to a high-end commercial photographer

Dont touch the photo's in your album, contact the original photographer. Believe it or not, the editing process is long, painstaking and hard work.. We only supply edited images. If a photographer is not, then a corner has been cut (and half a week has been liberated from the PC)

OK they are 2304 x 3456, so you can definitly get nice prints from them. Also they are not raw files. It does look like it has been corrected. Are the prints possibly with enhanments the files don't have? you can still order prints of these the way they are & they will look nice. Or you can do some enhancing in photoshop if you want.

I get this question a lot!

 

So here's how I do it.

 

Every client gets a CD with a ton of pics (usually over 600)

 

The pictures get slight adjustments. They don't need much. Most of the time I get the perfect exposure in the camera so they don't need much Photoshop.

 

I call these Proofs, and yes I do include a release so they can make their own prints anywhere they want.

 

The Digital Negatives are the images directly from the camera. If the client wants them, they can have them.

 

Any prints or albums included in the package (or ordered from the website) get the full treatment - Wrinkles removed, zits zapped, laugh lines reduced, as well as other distractions in the picture reduced or removed. The color is enhanced a touch, and a bit more photoshop magic is performed.

 

Since I take so many pictures at each wedding, there is no way I have enough time to do this to ALL the photos. But, anything that I do retouch for the album, IS included on the CD.

Also, if I want to play around with the images on the CD, what should I save it as to keep the same quality image? When I click to save as, it asks how high-for example: an 11 as high or 1 as low?? Sorry for sounds stupid

I save everything at a level 10 (it should go to 12). this is a compromise between great quality and huge file size. If you check out my website the pics are all saved at level 10. If you have a dial-up modem it will be slow, but DSL or CABLE will load quick, and you can make the window HUGE to see the Quality.

I'll agree that the best thing for prospective clients to do is ask the photographer to show you an example of exactly what you'll be getting.... "high rez" and "digital negatives" are pretty loose terms sometimes.

I'm surprised about that... and sad for you!
I never give a un-edited files to my customer... each files have pass under photoshop...and at the best that I can for each photo! And I give a full release to the customer.

If your photographer doesn't want to give you the edited files... and if you want some files to be print.. I can maybe help you for some (5-10) and do all photoshop on it
