Engagement Ring Question

Recommended Posts

My fiance wants me to wear both wedding band and engagement ring. I dont think this is correct and it may be a little tacky. I thought you are supposed to wait to wear the band until after the ceremony. Please let me know what you guys are doing. I think he is just trying to get me to show it off but I am trying to teach him to be patient. Maybe if he sees what the forum thinks he may reconsider.fencing.gif

Thanks everyone

In my opinion, you should wait until after the ceremony to wear your wedding band...but if you're OK with it, I guess you could do whatever you want (I'm not very traditional). But it's more fun if you wait I think! Plus people might be confused...if you wear it now, everyone will think you're already married...?

I know not everyone is Catholic or Christian but I THINK the meaning of the band going on at the ceremony is the same. Its supposed to be blessed and "seal' or "unit" you two. I copied and pasted this below, I search google for "symbolic meaning behind wedding bands". I always thought that it was a "uniting" type tradition, ?

"Early Christian marriages included a ritual that landed the wedding band on the third finger: As the priest recited, 'In the name of the Father, the Son, and the holy Ghost,' he took the ring and touched the thumb, the first finger, and then the second finger. When he said, 'Amen,' he placed the ring on the third finger, sealing the marriage."

I can understand his excitement! I'm guessing he worked really hard to get you a BEAUTIFUL bridal set... and he he waited for the right moment to propose... ect.

I don't think it will lose meaning if you wear it now... but like everyone has said, people might think you are married already (at least, people who don't know you).

In reality, I don't think its going to cause a huge uproar with people -- I've never just met someone and said "you have a wedding band on - are you REALLLY married?"

If it makes you personally uncomfortable ... I think that is the only thing that should matter... and you shouldn't wear it.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
