vow renewal vs legal ceremony?

Recommended Posts

So my question is...

Do you think (or would your guests think) that they are being cheated by not seeing an ACTUAL legal wedding? Do you feel like you are deceiving them? Are you going to tell your guests that it's not the real thing?

This has been discussed on a number of boards and want to get everyone's feedback, as we are considering the same thing (though we are getting married in the Dominican).

Looks like we will be getting married in Florida legally first rather than Mexico. It just seems much easier and I don't have to worry about lost documents, blood work etc. My friend just recently got married in the DR and they lost photocopies of their passports, birth certificates and drivers licenses. CRAZY and it was through a fed-ex type of agency. She got some compensation for the lost documents but still with all the identity theft goin on lately. I'd be POd.

Deb - in regards to your question, if we feel like we're ripping off our guests? No, I don't because I don't think most of them would be able to tell the difference. As we'll be doing our own vows and I don't think people would be able to tell the difference. I don't know if we have to sign anything in Mexico though - I'm assuming not being that there is nothing legal.

I think we'll still celebrate our anniversary on our mexican wedding date because to us that will be our wedding day rather than the day we go to the courts and sign the papers.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
