Are your BM paying for .......

Recommended Posts

Are your bridesmaids paying for their own dresses ? Not sure if its the same everywhere else but in the UK it is tradition for the bride or brides parents to pay for the bridesmaids dresses. As this is a budget wedding I was thinking of asking them to buy ther own. Do you think thats cheaky ? They are already paying for their trip.... Any thoughts ?? Maybe when the time gets closer depending on how our budget is I could maybe help out and pay something towards each of them.

I also paid for the bridesmaid dresses and the groomsmen attire. That was because the cost of the hotel & travel was more than we had originally stated, but I think that they really appreciated us considering their pocketbooks. But it's all in what you can do as well. If you can't put it in your budget, you need to have a talk with the bridal party to see if they can pay for their outfits. It would also be nice if you included them in the dress selection process, but of course you have the final say!

Oh yes, of course, if they were going to pay for their own dresses I would just ask thet they be the colour of our theme (Aqua / Turquoise ) but as for style I would leave that up to them to decide, even if they were all different as long as the colours were similar, I'd love to be able to pay for them and who knows its still a long way off I might be able to, you girls know how it is... things just just keep mounting up LOL...

I think it's fine to have the girls pay for their own if it is something like that where they can pick just about anything in a color.

Where I'm from it's normal for the BM's and GM's to pay for their own wedding attire. I've never been in a wedding where my dress was paid for by someone else.

That being said, I do understand it's a nice gesture - esp w/ a DW since they're already paying more to attend your wedding than the average BM/GM. BUT I was the MOH in a DW last year and I still paid for my own dress....and it didn't bother me a bit. Just the "cost of doing business" so to speak.

But if your friend's natrually assume that you'll be paying due to tradition it might be harder to "sell" the idea of paying to them. So I'd say try to chip in half or so if you can?

We offered to pay for the BM dresses and the GM shirts. We ended up with enough people booking with our travel agent that both me and my FI don't have to pay to go to the resort for the 1st week (we still have to pay the tax, but even with that it is saving us about $1300 each) so as a gesture to our wedding party, we are covering the cost of the dresses and shirts. We saved in one area that we had budgeted for, so we decided to spend a little in another. We are also on a budget, but I know my BM's don't have much cash, and at $1665 for the week, it is more than they would normally spend to go away for a vacay. Honestly, to each there own. They were all really surprised when I offered to buy, so it is certainly not expected - at least in Canada where I'm from. Do what is right for you on your budget.

I am trying (my hardest) to find BM dresses that are less than $40. I am not fancy and I don't want anything fancy for my wedding, so if I can do that, I will probably buy them for my girls. FI and I are also trying to put a little money towards our bridal party's travel cost. My parents about killed me when I told them I was going to pay for my wedding, so since they have made it clear they are paying for it, I feel like that frees up a bit of budget to help out our BMs and GMs. But this is all just ideal, who knows what is going to happen when it comes down to it!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
