Frustrated & Stressed..no longer a future DC bride :(

Recommended Posts

AGAIN I need to Vent...Thank you to all of you who are so supportive here!!

I will start by saying that yes I am lucky that my wedding is not until October 2009, and I do have time to plan. BUT it is frustrating to start the planning/researching process all over again.

So originally after many long hours of researching, asking advice from other Dreams Cancun brides, and talking to my travel agent..my fiancee Sy and I decided to have our wedding at Dreams in Cancun. We were just about to send our down payment, when other peoples reviews really got to us.

I met a girl on this forum by the name of Tiffany who had a bad experience at Dreams. She gave me her point of view, her emails were very helpful...but with an open mind we still kept our plans for our wedding.

Sy and I were mainly waiting to hear back from a friend of our family who was going to Dreams Cancun for a vow renewal at the end of June. They had a few unwanted experiences while staying at Dreams Cancun. Now after talking to them, there is no way to convince my FI into sticking with our plans of having our wedding at Dreams.

I'm pissed because I do understand that you will always find someone who has something bad to say,and that there are many couples who have had amazing experiences there. I was completely in love with the gazebo, and the terrace set up...so now I'm bummed!!

I think my FI is just freaked out because for most of our guests it will be their first time in Mexico.

Does anyone have any suggestions for AI resorts in the Cancun area that offer a private/semi private reception??We are back to the beginning of our planning process! censored.gif

AND AGAIN TO ALL OF THE DREAMS CANCUN BRIDES: I really appreciate each and every one of you !! You have taken the time out to send me personal emails, pictures, posts etc..you are all amazing and I wish you nothing but the best in your planning and your wedding day!

Ok I am not in any way cutting down the Dreams Cancun resort, and do not want to upset or worry anyone. First off my friends went to Dreams cancun to celebrate a wedding anniversary. They were very impressed with the staff and felt that they are what really make the resort. The first two nights of their stay they did not have air conditioning. The hotel was very good about sending a maintenance person to fix their ac, but each night when they arrived back at their room the ac was not working. The hotel offered them to change rooms on their 3rd morning there. They said their next room was much better, their only complaint was a bad smell that came from the sink, so they just closed the bathroom door and said that was not a big deal. Another guest who was part of their group had problems with sewage in the bathroom in the middle of the night. The hotel sent someone to clean their bathroom, and temporarily fix the problem until morning. I guess the smell was really bad. They also switched rooms. Another comment our friends made was that the couple celebrating the anniversary were upset with paying the per person amount for food. They discovered some of the same food served at their reception on the menus at the restaurants on other nights of their stay. I know these things are not HUGE, but my fiance will not change his mind. He is just afraid of the risk if something like this would happen to one of our guests. My friends did comment on the gazebo area being gorgeous! They also spoke with a couple there who had their wedding at DC the week prior, and they were beyond satisfied with the reception and ceremony. I don't want to worry anyone with these details, I just have a very picky fiancee who's mind is made up!!

I totally know what you are going through I have been minutes to giving in my deposit and then things changed/hidden fees. I have had a wedding planned and multiple resorts and islands with problem after problem. I loved the Paradisus in Cancun and wish I could have had it there. I finally chose Rosehall in Jamaica I actually just returned with all the problems I needed to go and make sure there was no small writing I missed like the other places. If you are willing to change islands feel free to contact me.

oh trust me I DID :). I was impressed because this morning with my breakfast (made by him while I was sleeping..he's totally kissing butt) he had printed out reviews for 4 different resorts..I think he finally got the clue how stressful it can be to research!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
