Thanks! I will PM him right now and see if he would like to add to this. wink.gif

Paul PM'ed me back and said that he did not have a Mayan ceremony he had a cosmic ceremony. So from what I can see a Mayan ceremony is 100% Mayan traditions. A cosmic ceremony is more of a fusion with some of the parts of a Mayan ceremony.

BTW my FI told me Sol and Matt are on there honeymoon right now so we may not hear back from them for a week or so. wink.gif

Here are the differences:

Cosmic Ceremony: It is a ritual of love, with no other commitment than to unite each other for love and as long as the love lasts.

This ceremony takes place before the universal energy, and consists of presenting the couple to the following points: to the superior cosmic energy (masculine), to the mother earth (feminine), to the four directions, using the Mayan order and their names, to the guardians of the place where the ceremony is held, to the center of their own hearts, the temple of love.

The ritual takes place in a circle formed by friends and family, who throw them flowers, play musical instruments, and play the conch shell (music optional, depending on group). Flowers of the four Mayan colors are used: white (representing North), red (East), yellow (South), and violet (West).

After the presentation all present in the circle can pass to the center, one by one, to offer a message, a song, or a poem to the couple.

Later, the couple communicates to each other whatever comes from their hearts, or whatever words they have previously prepared. If they like, this is the time to exchange rings as symbols of the union.

The group gives thanks to all the directions, and with kisses, hugs, and applause finish the ceremony.

Mayan Ceremony

Is based in the Maya's connection with the universe and their gods, which is described in their sacred book the Popol Vuh, the ceremony brings the couple to the four cardinal points (north, south, east and west) to unite them to the feminine Mother Earth and the masculine Cosmic Energy, symbolized by a central sacred candle.

An altar is created to represent these four cardinal points. Flowers mark these four points and on the altar there is traditional offerings to the Gods - corn, beans, rice, fruit – to represent the gifts of prosperity and fertility. North is represented by red flowers, East with yellow, South with purple, and West with white. Candles are located on the altar on the four cardinal points -- north, south, east and west – to symbolize the presence of the four Mayan cosmos gods.

The center candle unites the feminine and masculine – Mother Earth and Cosmic Energy, the fifth flame - which is lit by the Shaman or by the one he designates. Prior to the ceremony, the area is cleansed at the four cardinal points by the Shaman with the sacred smoke from the Copal tree and the blowing of the ritual conch shell horn.

Currently, the places we are considering for a Cosmic Ceremony are Eco Tulum Weddings; The Tides; or a private beach in Playa Del Carmen. Afterwards, we will have our reception at Casa Del Agua in Playa Del Carmen on 5th Avenue. You can visit our wedding website to see how I've described it thus far, but keep in mind it's still under construction.

We are considering the Cosmic Ceremony, as we are seeking a spiritual ceremony that will add deeper meaning to our lives. The idea of uniting with nature together seems very intense, and this is an experience we feel we can hold sacred.

I hope this information helps. XO

Hi, my wife and I are treveling in Europe now on our honeymoon. We had a Cosmic Ceremony performed by Maria and Charlie and we recommend them with all our hearts. Our ceremony was fantastic and everyone thought it was really intense. Some good friends of ours who are a couple came to us a few weeks later to tell us they were so much more in love with each other after our wedding, a wonderful compliment. Here are the photos:

Because we film weddings we've seen both the Cosmic and the Mayan ceremonies. The Mayan ceremonies are cool but sometimes a little hard to relate to. The Cosmic Ceremony is easier to connect to. Don't be put off by the silly name.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
