Catalonia, Riviera Maya

Hi, I'm new but not a bride. My name is Karen and I am the mother of the groom, planning a wedding for my son and fiance at the Catalonia Riviera Maya. Wedding date is November 27, 2008. (I hope) I have gotten so much information already that has been so helpful. We are all booked but I just emailed the WC yesterday and have not heard back yet. Bride and groom are Kelly Dahl and Adam Owens.

setting the date with the WC was the hardest part. are they doing legal or symbolic? if it's not the legal ceremony be sure to emphasize that in the email so elena realizes she doesn't need to wait until she knows the judges schedule.

elena is the WC & she is really nice. She does a great job but is also really busy. She always replied to me quick with everything but setting the date. her emails were very brief but I got all the info i needed.

i don't know why setting the date is the hardest part. I called the hotel every hour last 4th of july until i finally got to talk to her. then she said, "email me." well, i had already emailed my request 3 times. after the phone call she got me on the books.

Welcome, Karen! My daughter just got married, and we found so many great ideas here on the forum. Morgan is a treasure trove of helpful hints and will soon become your new best friend! We actually had another groom's mom join yesterday, too. Yay for helpful moms!

Thanks Morgan, I got most of my information from you! Thanks for doing all of the work for me. I had spoken with a WC at the ElCozumeleno in person because we were going to go there, but things changed so I feel like I am a little late doing all of this. Adam and Kelly are so busy they just want to know where and when to be there. They are doing the symbolic ceremony. Did you just leave the date open and let her decide? We don't really care. Was your wedding free? We have a group of 18 staying 7 days. Thanks for your info

I picked the date & time & told elena what I wanted.

The wedding was $350. Since your group is less than 20, you can have dinner in one of the restaurants for the reception for free. it's not private though. We were fine with not having a private dinner. We picked the mexican restaurant. I have pictures of both the mexican & itallian restaurants on the catalonia thread. I don't have any pictures of the japanese steakhouse yet. my camera died that night so I'm waiting to get pics from my guests. that place probably wouldn't work for a wedding reception though. but, i suggest making a reservation there one of the nights. it was a lot of fun. also, they cooked up the fish our group caught for free.

The $350 fee included so much. it was a really great value.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
