December 2008 brides

Hi All

We leave on Dec 26th and our wedding is Dec 29th. I am getting excited. I think I am all ready for both our wedding and Christmas dinner I am hosting at my house.

Things were a little difficult with the planning. We had a number of glitches. The last one was that the tour company canceled our flight from Friday Dec 26th and tried to move it to Sunday Dec 28th. Our Wedding was booked at Playa Costa Verde Cuba for Dec 29th and because we are getting married the week after Christmas and the week of New Years there were no days to change the wedding to so they were not going to be able to marry us. The wedding is our reason for spending all this money on this trip. By the way we booked all this in April and this change occurred way after the final payment was due end of Oct. These kinds of travel industry games make it impossible to plan a destination wedding. I was told my flight was full since the end of Sept. How the heck do the cancel a full flight unless that was a lie to begin with. My wedding logo didn't have the destination on it so I was lucky that the items I had ordered and made were not garbage. I hadn't printed up my welcome book, etc, yet. Whew!

I was about to cancel everything when the travel agent found us a new resort - Melia Las Dunas - for the same flight dates and same wedding day and pretty much the same costs. The resort looks amazing so I am happy.

My group started out with 23 people who booked and paid deposits in April to our final numbers of 12.... so we have a small intimate group. The only sad part is neither of our parents are able to come (health issues). This is both John and my second wedding. We thought this wouldn't bother us so much not having our parents with us but it is a bit. We bought them digital picture frames for Christmas and will make a nice wedding album when we get back.

I had hesitated writing in the forums for a bit as I didn't want to discourage/ scare other brides planning a DW. It all works out in the end.

Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday season!

Terri

Glad to hear everything is working out for you. We had crazy stuff happen on way down and back up, and with the room/booking but we got married and had a fab time.
I hope you have the time of your life down there. punk.gif

Happy New Year to everyone!!!!!

I know I am slowly trying to get adjusted to everything after the wedding and the holidays and going through this name change process is a BEAST!! It also doesn't help that I'm working on arranging a couple of AHRs (which has made me not be a good BDW member). How's everyone else doing?

Haha...that's why I'm not changing my name :-)
I told him if he wants us ot have the same last name, he can change hissmile72.gif

We're still on the fence about having an AHR... I really want to, but DH isn't too into it... I'm looking into some different venue options right now, so it will likely come down to cost... as in, if it's low enough, I'll be able to convince him to have an AHR :-)

How's everyone doing with thank you cards...?
I ordered mine from a girl who makes them in Seattle awhile ago, but b/c of all the crazy weather, she was only able to send them out today:-)
So, hopefully our guests don't think we're rude :-)

(although, according to Emily Post, you have three months to send thank you cards...so at least we're not THAT late:-))

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
