Does anyone know of a good appetite supressant?

Aww thanks Mel. I can happily say I'm down 8 lbs now. That's a nice number for me because it's only been 3 weeks and I don't want to lose too fast.

I just want to say that I feel SOOO much better. My diet hasn't changed THAT much because I always watched my flour and sugar intake. However, I have pretty much cut out most flour products and ALL sugar. In return I feel so much more energized and completely positive.

I won't lie though- I've had a skinny cow ice cream sandwich and a hamburger with sweet potato fries one day. I feel it's essential though so I don't feel deprived. No wants me to be a raving, craving bitch. LOL

I'm so proud of everyone sticking to it. It's hard though. I started working out every weekday morning before I go to work for the past 3 weeks. I feel like I've seen some results one day but non on others. It could also be that right before I start my period, I can NEVER get full. I eat and eat.

Also, since I have been working out, I think I justify eating unhealthy things, so really I'm just balancing out instead of dropping like crazy. So I told myself last night, after eating ribs, mac and cheese and hush puppies that it was my last splurge night. I'm going to be really good during the week, then allow myself to cheat one day during the weekend.

I've heard before that a lot of "diets" don't work because people feel like they are depriving themselves and finally just give in. But if you set a day aside to look forward to, then you won't feel so binded during your healthy days.

Also, as far as adderall goes, I got diagnosed with ADD 5 years ago, and its the only way I can get anything done at work. It does suppress your appetite, but I don't think to the point where you just drop 35 pounds in 2 weeks like Nicole Richie. I've been on it for a while, and I'm not even close to being skin and bones. I wouldn't recommend anyone using it for a suppressant. It is strictly to treat ADD, and can be abused.

I don't think there is any "magic pill" as much as we all with there were. I know we don't want to admit it, but diet and exercise is always the healthiest and best overall.

So stick with it ladies. We can all do it together, and cheer each other on!

For some people though it's not as easy as that. If you have normal functioning metabolism then it's easy to say moderation is the key. I believe I was exercising and using moderation before but unfortunately, my body is a little bit stricter. After 2 years of continual weight gain and no explanation, I visited the doctor for a series of testing. I found out that my body isn't "normal" which is actually a relief in the end. I know that sounds funny, but when you work your ass off and strictly monitor your food to only find that after MONTHS you haven't lost a single pound, you become frustrated and hopeless. In turn, you figure you should just pig out on anything you want because it doesn't really matter.

Now, I understand that eating in moderation isn't really going to work for me. I have to button up my diet A LOT more than that- which I'm ok with as long as I know I can produce results. I'm very thankful to say that I have been seeing a difference so it helps me remain positive and not feel like I'm a failure. But I do have my weak moments- especially when my body decides to celebrate my womanly "gift" every month. LOL I'm ok with caving every once awhile as long as I still try to maintian a healthy approach to my giving in to weak moments. For example, instead of eating a calorie packed dessert to satisfy a craving, I'm happy with turning to a skinny cow sandwich. Or eating baked sweet potato fries with my hamburger instead of normal french fries.

I think the main thing if women are experiencing the same frustrations I was to just visit with your doctor. Get all the test done- find out if your body is functioning properly and if it's not, find steps to help yourself out. :)

Rachel - good for you! 8 lbs is good - you have had to give up a lot and I am proud of you!

As far as Adderal - I have seen the effects as far as weight loss goes with that stuff. My daughter has been taking it for ADD since February and she has lost 35lbs. She was a big girl to begin with, so she could afford to lose some weight. Her doctor is watching her closely and we make sure she eats good food when she does eat and we make sure she drinks tons of water, milk and juice. Adderal is no joke and is something not to be taken without a medical professional! I'm not going to lie and say it hasn't done wonders for her self esteem because it has. She looks great and isn't so self conscious anymore. She just needs it to focus and one of the side effects was weight loss. We also don't make her take it every day since school is out. However, we definitely notice the difference with her when she doesn't take it. She is a total space cadet.

I still havent found anything over the counter to help out. I tried Slimquick for 3 days and it has too much caffine for me, so that stuff is out. I think I am going to go with a good old fashioned chicken, veggie, fruit, water and exercise diet and see how it goes from there! We've got 3 months till our day and if I lose - that would rock, if I don't - I will know in my heart of hearts that I tried!

I will keep an eye out for something with hoodia to help give me a jumpstart.

That's amazing Rachel. You should be very proud of yourself for having the willpower. I feel like I got a swift kick in the rear this week when everyone started reminding me we only have 8 months until our wedding.

I weight 60 pounds more now than when Hiram and I started dating each other 7 years ago. I feel like a heffer now I don't know where to start. We bought an elliptical two weeks ago and I am getting on that religiously now and trying to decide how to crack down on foods. What's scary is that I never really over-eat and I don't eat tons of junk but I have gained weight like mad!

Oh well... I'm hoping I can drop *some* weight in the next 8 months.

I'm inspired by your success though. Hopefully I can follow suit. :)

Sandra, Celena and Tara- Thanks for your well wishes! I know I will be leaning on you all for some support when I feel like killing someone for some good ol food!

Tara- I know what it feels like. I was in your situation not that long ago. I was working out HARD with my DH and eating right. I didn't lose a stinkin pound. I was sooo frustrated and I got married at my heaviest weight- EVER. I was still the happiest girl and I won't take back one single experience. However, I was so upset by my lack of results I finally consulted a doctor. Have you had a check up to make sure your thyroid, blood sugar and metabolism are all up to par? If not, I would definitely go that route first. It will save you some heart ache and frustration, not to mention take the first step in helping you get on the right track for a healthy life. If you have any issues with thyroid or blood sugar other areas of your body will severely suffer! My doctor is surprised I don't have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) because it's very common with women who have blood sugar troubles like me.

In the meantime I wish you much luck and patience. Weight loss isn't over night and we all have to remain positive and patient. :)

  • 2 years later...

bumping this thread to specifically ask about people's experiences with Meridia. one of my closest friends has been prescribed this and has been taking it for almost 2 months and is down 30 pounds!

im in a rut and im out of control with my eating. no matter how hard i try i cant seem to curb how much food i can shovel in! im constantly hungry and feel like i could eat a horse at any given moment. ive gained so much weight that its uncomfortable: breathing, heartburn, etc. i am having an amazingly difficult time not giving in to cravings. anything i want, i eat, even tho i feel horrible about it as im eating it.

i need a SERIOUS kick start to cutting back my portion size. im eating the same amount as my 6' tall hubby and almost 15 yr old son!!! (that is SO not right!)

does anyone have any stories or info regarding Meridia that you would share with us?

ABS!  Other then the last part about your son, I couldn've written that exact post.  I'm shoveling it in and feel guilty while I'm doing it, but don't stop.  I think ti's b/c I'm bored and unhappy, but I've done all I can to fix that (crafts to keep me from being bored and the TTC is making me unhappy, not much I can do there.)

Now I need to read the whole thread and see if there are other suggestions b/c I doubt a doctor would prescribe me anything.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
