I hired Adrian Herrera for photgraphy and Fernando for hair and make-up. Im just going to buy them day passes. As far as decor, Im just gonna go with colored linen that they supply at the resort. I wanted to add lighting, but their packages are way too pricey. The one thing Ive learned from past DW brides is that, all that extra detail is not even worth it and of course the small details dont even matter. Extra lighting will be cool, but Im sure what they already supply will be sufficient. When you get there you can choose the decor you want. That might help you with your decision being that youll get to see what it will all look like in person. :)

Did you upgrade tables/chairs etc?  or add lighting?  I feel a little overwhelmed by all the options....and while my fiance is handling the DJ situation the woman hasn't gotten back to him in 2 weeks.  He is much more patient then I am though....but still!  Sorry bit frustrated by planning process.

He would always get back to me the same day, sometimes with in the hour. Maybe he has multiple address, and some he doesnt check as regular?

Try him at this one aventuraops@jsav.com?

There were probably 2 occasions where it took him a few days to get back to me, but it was no biggie. Have you tried contacting your wedding coordinator? Dulce was the one who initially got me in contact with Michell.

Photography:

For my wedding I booked Matt From Del Sol. They have a photo journalism style and are AMAZING! They are a little expensive, but truly world class. Their website is located HERE -> http://delsolphotography.com/blog/

If you love the Del Sol style, but would prefer a more economical choice. Matt, Owner of Del Sol apparently started another company under the Del Sol umbrella called La Luna. Their website is located HERE -> http://www.lalunaphotographers.com/

You should take a look; I believe some of the pictures posted on the website are of Best Destination Wedding Brides. I believe La Luna starts around $400/p.h.

Audio/Visual

For audio and Visual I contacted:

Be sure to ask for the Aventura Price lists. It varies from the regular list. JSAV are the preferred Palace Resorts Vendor for DJing. I do not think you would be able to get away with an outside DJ. My Wedding coordinator, Yazmin said she preferred if I contacted them myself. I booked them for 4 hours at $385. I thought it was going to be cheaper, but I am happy with this.

I put both of these Vendors on the Aventura Spa & Cove WIKI today.

Question 2:

I upgraded tables†cloths to eggplant purple, with round tables and white wood chairs. I am bring down chair sashes and paper lanterns. You can rent them, but they are very expensive. I will probably rent Tiky Touches when I am down there.

Yes we are using JSAV for the wedding we are using lighthing and DJ services. I believe my fiance is in contact with someone by the name of Miroslava.  She was very prompt in the beginning but now things have slowed down.  FI has been great at handling this aspect so I know he will do a fab job with it.

As fo decor we are upgrading the chairs to tiffany through Lily at Zuniga productions (reccomended by Yazmin)....right now fiance and I are in friendly battle over upgrading the tables to square or rectangles or just having a mix.

We are also using Juan Navarro for our wedding photography. And so far he has been fabulous to work with.

I suppose though I should have been more clear in my question--- I guess when they said we had a wedding coordinator I thought she would be a little more proactive in getting all of the vendors on the same page.  I supppose since they all work together this will just happen....but it is still stressful.

I would love to get a better handle on the DAY OF budget but I have been waiting for so many quotes it has been hard to make decisions.

Our guests are there for 5 days and we created a budget for each day....I guess I just feel like I am planning in piecemeal.  (Sorry I probably sound like crazy control freak).

Lil ...

Tad of a rant but what annoys me is that all the brides on this site say there are a ton of options to choose from once you are down there. Centerpieces that are not in the PDFâ€s they sent. Décor options. Ect.

Why, oh why, cant them PDF the darn document and send it to us! This way I would be able to figure out what I can plan on handling down their and what I should bring. I have been making a lot of assumptions and I do not like working that way. In todayâ€s technological world, PDFâ€s and computer files shouldnâ€t not be that outrages to expect.

Also…I to thought the wedding planner would be a tad more pro-active. If I did not know about this site, I would have never thought to ask her about Djâ€s and such. I would have assumed they would take care of contacting me with what optional services I need…then created a quote/budget.

I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO HUNT DOWN EMAIL ADDRESS FOR PEOPLE I AM GIVING MONEY TOO!

I am not impressed with their organizational skills so far.

For those of you bringing in a photographer...

Are you letting them know?

If not, don't they ask why you are not using their photographer?  What do you say?

It seems like this is common but right on the contract is states no outside vendors.  I just want to make sure it ends up working out.

Also, thank you to those who posted about La Luna.  I fell in love with del Sol but could not afford them.  When I looked at La Luna I felt it was the same type of style I was looking for.

And 1 more question...

Does it matter which resort you sign the contract for?  Spa vs Cove

When do you actually have to pick the wedding and reception site?  I have seen a lot of pictures of the gazebos and reception areas but I am not sure if that is all of them.  Am I obligated to stick to one side if that is the side I am signing the contract for??

Thanks!!

I was just going to get my photographer a room and leave it at that.  I believe a bride said earlier in this thread "why give them a chance to tell you no"...she didn't, and they didn't say a word.  I have a bit of worry about having an issue, but I think I'm just going to go for it...especially with this new pricing.  Octavio Montes' pricing is more afforable than the resorts new rates and he is exchanging a night at the resort for my TTD photo session the next day.

I am going to tell them that my cousin will be taking the photos. Me and my FI were laughing that all the resorts probably cry when Del Sol shows up. I bought them a day pass, so it shouldnt be a problem. If it is I will get them a room for the night. If the resort wasnt so close to Play Del Carman I probably would have anyways but I figuered they would just want to go home after working all day.

I think one bride on the forum said she told her WC, Maybe Deluce? And she just frowned and said "Don't Tell Anyone" And that was the end of that. I think I will take the, "Avoid it at all costs"

We did sign up for one of the resorts packages that comes with a Photographer. I might see if I can trade that in for a TTD or something the next day. I am guessing they will say No. From my experience, they don't like to give you an inch.

Thanks ladies!!

I am planning on just buying the day pass for them and saying they are just guests if I am asked (they just happen to have a few cameras and some amazing abilities lol) .

If they ask about not using their photographer I'll say my mom is doing it.  She really is a photographer and I know she'll be out there taking a tons of pics anyways haha.

FYI -- Yesenia just wrote me back in response to my concern about price changes and this is what she told me...

"As of September 1st, we will be using the new photography packages. Certain photography packages will be able to be paid with the vacation dollars. However, we can still honor the old prices but you will not be able to use the vacation dollars for payment."

Sooo...I may still go with them after all....ugghh!!! I don't know!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
