Anyone married at the Riu?

Recommended Posts

I just have a question regarding booking of your day. I have been confirmed by the resort for our day, now i have recieved two different emails reagrding our confirmation. One is from Riu which wants alot of information from us and second is from the wedding co-ordinator Erika, who wants a bit of information. The one from Riu wants our credit card to hold the date, the one from Erika does not specify any deposit details. I really do not want to fill out the one from the Riu because they want our booking confirmation for our trip, which we have not done yet, as our travel agent is working on a package for us still and i don't see why they need our credit card as it states that we pay when we get there. But it says we have 30 days or our date will be released.

Right now i plan to email Erika back with the information. But i was wondering what other brides did regarding the Riu email? Did you make a deposit with Riu? If anyone can help me with this i would greatly apprieciate it!! Also i will be calling my travel agent tomorrow ( it's a holiday day here in Canada!!) as she told me i do not need anything to reserve my date with the hotel.

Thanks!!!

I would contact the wedding coordinator first.

I'm not sure how the RIU is in Cabo, but for the RIU in Puerto Vallarta, I held on to the confirmation from the RIU for quite some time before giving them all the info and a credit card.

I did have to fill out the info eventually, but we didn't do it until 6 months after recieving the initial e-mail from RIU.

E-mail the WC and ask her what to do just to be on the safe side. My assumptions are that they are very busy and need a commitment (i.e. credit card) or they will give the date to someone else.

Right now they have our credit card info and we have not been charged. We were told they will charge us if we cancel 30 days out, but that once we get there we can change our form of payment if we wanted to.

Good luck!

I am going through ROR... and we held off on our confirmatoin for like 4 months. But earlier this week I got an email stating I needed to confirm (w/ booking reservation/credit card number) within 48 hours or I would lose my spot. I think they just do it, so that way spots aren't being held for brides who aren't serious. I don't think any previous Riu bride has had issues with giving their credit card number.

This is the way they do it. If you dont fill out the form from booking they can give your day and time away. Actually I think that happened to someone else with me. When my TA and I went on their website my day and time were not available. But my TA called and said we where ready to book but need that day and time. It took two days to hear from them, but we did get we got it. We gave them our CC info and have not been charged as of yet.

I was worried about this too, I asked Erika if we needed to give a deposit and she said no. I spoke with my TA and she was surprised we hadn't booked our room yet because all the weddings she had done weren't confirmed until you book a room and give CC info. We went ahead and booked our room, gave the CC info and confirmation code on the Riu website and then our date was confirmed. I have heard nothing but good things about Erika I think she tries to contact you and establish a relationship early which is why she is contacting you before you confirm. I would do it now if I were you, imagine if you printed invites and planned and your date was given away. I also received a confirmation voucher email once all was said and done.

  • 2 weeks later...

We are getting married at the RIU Santa Fe December 6, 2008. We are using Destination Wedding Travel. They set us up with a travel agent that was very familiar with Cabo and she helped us find a place. I would definately recommend them because not only are they travel agents that will help you and your guests book, but they are familiar with the wedding people at these hotels. I filled out the forms and my DWT travel agent took care of he booking for me. If you're having trouble getting responses, they will get a hold of them for you. You initially pay $50 to get started, but that is used towards your travel expenses. It relieves a lot of the stress on your part.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
