Hive Spa

The spa prices have gone down as of 11/28/06! The owner, Jonathan, told me that the new prices should be on their website shortly. He said all the treatments will be $15-25 less.

I also talked to him about hosting a bridal spa day with my bridesmaids. He said they were his favorite to do. He hires a DJ and mixes martinis. The spa is small so if you have 6 girls, you can have the whole spa to yourself. Very hip!!

KarlaV - some of the girls from here went there and said they were dissapointed...hmmm im pretty sure they were talking about this place...one of the hairstylists is Bambi, is this the one?

They said they specifically booked with Bambi and Hive confirmed that and once they arrived they told them that she was out of town, kinda sketchy

Who did your hair for Juan's slideshow? I thought it looked beautiful

Yes that was me who booked with Bambi and didn't get her.

For full disclosure, you should know that I wrote them a letter of complaint. It was not a nasty letter or anything, but it explained how I felt about my experience there, which was disappointing.

I received a letter back saying that Bambi didn't do my hair because she had to fly home to attend a funeral at the last minute and that they didn't have time to notify me and that they didn't want to tell me that day because they didn't want to have bad news on my wedding day or something ?!?!? It was weird.

I am not going to call them liars or anything, but it all seemed very unprofessional at the time. While I appreciate their response to my letter, something still does not sit right with me about the whole thing.

Anyway, it's a beautiful spa and I am sure that you could have a fun party there. I hope that my experience was a fluke and not the norm.

I'm still eager to hear what Natasha has to say about them...hers was the appointment before mine...

That is so sad to hear. Janet, did they give you a discount or anything for scheduling you with someone else?

Edyta, I had my hair blown out by the stylist I go to in my home town before I left. We met with Juan the next day, so it pretty much stayed in tact. Thanks for the compliment. I actually have really curly hair, so whenever I want something special I staighten it.

Karla,

The way their payment policy works, you pay 100% of the fee before your appointment, including 18% gratuity. While this is nice because you have no hassle when you walk in the door on your wedding day, I also found it frustrating because there is no way to adjust your gratuity based on the level of service.

Ultimately, I liked the way my hair and makeup was done, so I didn't feel like I needed to ask for a refund. I mostly just wanted to tell them how it made me feel (deceived at worse, unimportant/not listened to at best) so that other brides wouldn't have the same problem!

The girl who did my hair, Dani, was really nice and did what I wanted. Had I known that she was doing my hair from the beginning, everything would have been fine. The problem was that I booked and confirmed with Bambi and she wasn't there -- with no explanation (at the time). But Dani really is competent. (Word is she is Bambi's updo protege, handpicked to go down to Cabo to do brides)

As for makeup, unless they get different facilities/training, I would steer away. I was fine with the outcome, but I also think it was just as good as if one of my talented girlfriends had done it. Plus their brushes were kinda dirty, the makeup was kinda old, and the mascara was downright crusty.

Sorry...I feel bad being so negative when I really did like my hair/makeup! But I consider that a lucky byproduct...I just as easily could have not liked it given what happened.

One positive note: one my my bridesmaids had her hair done there as well and it looked really cute! I really think they have talent in doing updos...just make sure you know what you are getting!

Janet,

I so sorry you had to go through that kind of stress. Ultimately, your hair and makeup looked flawless!!

Thanks for the heads up. I think I will look elsewhere for my hair and makeup. I'm glad I know ahead of time.

I might still do their bridesmaid mani/pedi party though.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
