Half Moon Resort?!?

Recommended Posts

Hello BDW brides! I am looking into getting married at Half Moon Resort in MoBay. I have contacted the hotel for a RFP, but have yet to hear back. We will have 50 - 100 guests, but I keep hearing about how expensive it is. Has anyone received a ball park for a wedding of this size from Half Moon that they would be willing to share? We don't have a ton of money to spend and I would like to look at other resorts if Half Moon is way too expensive. Any information would be very much appreciated! Thank you and I love love love this forum!!! You guys are they best!smile03.gif

My group was no where near the size of yours but when I looked into half moon, the rooms are defiantly on the pricey side. You might be able to get the ceremony included if you book a certain amount of rooms, but it might be a lot to ask of your guests to stay at such an expensive resort. When I looked the prices were in the same range as the Ritz. It is a beautiful resort though, and looked like a great place to get married.

Hi :)

We were originally getting married at Half Moon and for a wedding of that size you are looking at upwards of $20K-$30K depending upon what you want. We are now getting married in Ochi but the staff at Half Moon is very nice and was gracious enough to let us use our deposit that we paid for our Honeymoon there. We will be honeymooning at Half Moon for about a week. If you have the budget I would definitely recommend them. I have a lot of info they sent me as I was planning my original wedding there, so if you have any other questions feel free to ask :)

We drove past it on the way to Negril and it was definitely beautiful!

With our budget, AI was the way to go. My understanding is that Half Moon has an AI plan, but it doesn't cover certain restaurants, mini bar items, etc. I really just wanted to get somewhere and not have anything else to worry about.

We would still consider going there on a trip for just the two of us.

The place is beautiful, but very isolated. LOL, they have their own shopping plaza, because they are so isolated (aka intimate). Honestly, they are way too expensive. If your guests are not staying at the resort, they cannot attend the wedding at all. They do not provide day passes. Unless, they changed their policy. You probably want to plan activities with your guest too. You will have to travel quite a distance to get to everything, because of it's location.

Good Luck, J

I was married at the Half Moon in 2004. It's a WONDERFUL resort. The wedding coordinator drove me crazy because she didn't move fast enough while trying to set up the wedding from the US. This required patience from me. I had to recall their culture is different and their famous motto is "No Problem...No worries". Once I was able to relax, I was fine.

But when I arrived everything was exactly as I wanted. They were great and very flexible. My coordinator's name was Racquel. I selected the flowers when I arrived as the garden is on the property. My sister was supposed to do my hair but do to hurricanes she could not fly out of Florida. I had my hair done on the property in their salon and I was completely happy. We stayed 10 days and never needed to leave the property for anything. Unless we chose to participate in particular excursion. It is slightly pricey but well worth every penny. I gave my guests that weren't able to afford the hotel 2 other price options at different hotels. Half Moon said they had all these rules for guests to visit the property but nothing was every an issue.

OH, I just read a few more posts. When I asked about guests staying at other hotels visiting for the wedding. I was originally told I have to pay $200. I just told the girl no, I wasn't paying that and if it was a probably then I wouln't select there resort. In the end, we didn't pay a dime nor did they ever question anyone. No one walks around the resort with wristbands or anything so they don't know.

Our total cost for a 50 person brunch with mimosas and a 10 day all inclusive stay was $10K. When I added my flowers and such it was a total of $15K. You really don't need any extra flowers beyond the bouquet and boutineers (sp?) because the locations are sooo beautiful. My pictures looked as if we were cut/paste into a fake background because they were so awesome. If anyone is really interested in this location I can dig up my pictures and show them. The photographer was pricey but I paid for 36 pictures and was completely happy. Luckily my brother was a film major in college so he videotaped it for me.

Oh the other great things was. We would go to dinner and take mayb 20 people and put the cost all on 1 room. Well, everyone staying in that room (2) people had an all inclusive plan so the dinner for 20 people was totally free. We also would order loads of room service to a reoom with all inclusive plans and it was free. Our meals covered all restaurants and drinks, including the minibar.

Their guest policy has changed. You do not have to pay for them to come to the weddign techincally speaking but if less than 80% of your guests saty at Half Moon then you have to pay a site fee for that particular location where you are having your ceremony/reception.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
