After having a little bit of a freak out this AM, we are now booked at Barcelo Maya Caribe for April 24, 2009 at 3:00!!!!!! I'm SO excited! I think I like it way more than the RIU! I haven't contacted the WC yet, but I do have her email from the TA, so I will get right on that. I am learning SO much by reading all the posts on here!! What a lifesaver! Any advice anyone wants to give that's not on here already, feel free!!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the photography by Elizabeth Medina, but we're kinda on a beer budget, so I might be stuck with the resort photographers...we'll see. I feel like photography might be the ONE thing NOT to skimp on. Anyway, thanks! I just wanted to share!

If there is one piece of advice you should not ignore it's this...definately DO NOT skimp on your photography budget. We did and we've regretted it ever since - even my hubby who was totally against spending extra money on an outside photog is upset about not having better wedding photos. (I twisted his arm enough to have an hour of offsite photos done with Erik Rodrigues, but our ceremony and family shots were done by the resort photogs).

Hello ladies,

I haven't been to this thread for awhile, I got so busy with school that the wedding has been on hold for a bit.

Here's what going on. After much debate, we have decided to go for the Tender Moon package. I really wanted a reception on the beach or one of the grills, but my fiance did not really want to spend the extra money, plus he thinks it will be too cold- we have my two 80 year old Grandmothers coming.

This is what we have planned, I just need to finalize it with Gabriella.

Ceremony at 3:00p.m. [this has been finalized already]

We go for photos from 4:00p.m. to 5:00p.m.

Cocktail hour with Mariachi Band from 5:30p.m. to 6:30p.m.

Supper in banquet hall [Tender Moon] package for 3 hours

Then off to the disco to party it up in our wedding attire.

It has taken us 3 months to decide this!!!!

Does anyone know what decorations are provided, especially for the banquet hall?

Thanks!!!!

We didn't have the reception in the banquet hall, but we brought some shells and things to sprinkle on the tables, and then they had candles around the edge of the room, and fruit centerpieces. We could have paid more to upgrade to flower centerpieces but we didn't want to spend the extra money and the fruit center pieces were really nice I thought!

Hey guys I am new to this thread i was getting married at dreams but because of some bad things we have heard about the resort we switching and I am highly considering this resort but the only thing I am concerned about is I must have an outside photog. I read through this thread and i see that you can bring one if they stay at the hotel one night is this still true!

Well, I haven't received my actual WC yet, but I have asked this question to a general wedding coordinator at the resort and she said that actually, I can just pay for a day pass for my photog and her assistant. So, we'll see how that goes! :-) I will be sure to print out that email and bring it along to the wedding. At first, she told me that I had to pay for them to spend the night, but then when I told her a photog (Claudia Rodriguez) told me I only had to do day passes for them, she said that day passes would be fine. I am not having Claudia or her group do my wedding, Cecilia Dumas is, so my guess is that it doesn't matter who the photog is, that's the new policy--IF you ask for it. (I did tell them that Claudia is not doing my wedding.) So, anyway, that's what I know!

All I have to say is DestinationWeddings.com - Destination Weddings and Honeymoons, destination wedding planners, wedding destinations, wedding travel, wedding vacations! Saved my life! You pay $50 through your credit card to be hooked up with a WC. Im telling you that I was a little weary about the whole thing... but it has been nothing but positive! After you book your wedding... The $50 get applied to your wedding. Its a no loose!!!

Hi Everyone, I am debating between Barcelo Tropical/Colonial or the Bahia Principe Akumal. Do any of you have pictures of the banquet rooms? Are they nice? Do you know how much extra it is for a cocktail hour after the ceremony and before dinner? Thanks for your help!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
