What to buy a two year old girl?

One of my really good friends daughter just turned two. They are having a party for her on the 28th. I need to figure out a gift. I don't want to spend over a hundred dollars. Any ideas? FI and I were thinking about getting her a little fish tank of her own because she LOVES my fish tank. I know a bunch of you have little ones. What do they like at that age?

I would strongly advise against a fish tank unless you talk to her parents first, otherwise it will be work for them. At two she's too young to actually care for a fish, and it will be mom & dad who have to clean the bowl, remember to feed it (even if she's the one to do the feeding, she's too young to remember and be responsible). What about something fish related? Like a toy that has something to do with fish? I wonder if they make pretend fish tanks?

I found a Nemo fish tank that has a bunch of fake fish in it BUT it's a real tank. I was looking for a fake one too because I was thinking the same thing about the parents having to do the work. That is why I need ideas! I have never been around a two year old girl. I have NO clue what they like. It's like they are stuck in between baby stuff and big girl stuff.

I just got a friend's daughter a "big sister"gift and she's 2. We got her a cute little xylephone - like a mini piano that is very light on noise and easy to play.

 

Apparently she loves it. She sits down and bangs on it while her mom practice the piano

 

It's not a pricey gift but I'm sure you can get pricier versions. I think ours was about $15 or something at Toys R Us.

 

At that age they are changing so quickly I wouldn't want to spend too much $$ on them as they don't much care!

One thing my daughter started liking when she was 2 was colouring books. They have the color wonder books and markers from crayola that don't write on anything but the special paper. I love them and they have saved a lot of mess for me to clean up. There are a bunch of things in this line besides just the markers. They also have finger paints that work the same way as the markers.

I have two three year old nieces so I've gotten well versed in buying for this age group. Hot items for girls of this age are any Disney Princess or Dora the Explorer toys. The dress up costumes are great and pretty inexpensive. And of course the classics....legos, play-doh, chalk boards, coloring books, books.

You might want to check if it's a theme party sometimes the cake and decorations will give some clues. Also in addition to the toy I love buying a cute little outfit, little kids clothes are so fun to buy. My daughter always wanted to try the new clothes on right away so it was like a little fashion show at the b-day party!

Ask her parents, they will know what she's already got, and you won't upset them with a present they don't agree on

Most of my friends have got little ones,mostly boys tho!, what normally works for them is something they can bash and make noise with but that is educational 2 - i'd go with dora the explorer or peppa pig anything of tv they tend to love but you wont need spend more than about $30 anything else its a waste

I would say any type of dress up clothes, BUBBLES!!!! My niece loved bubbles at 2.
