So I am not usually superstitious but when we first got engaged I was now but now not so much but now my FI is. So my grandmother has a bible that she carried down the aisle and since then all of the women in my family have and then signed it. Well 1/2 of them are divorced or lost their husband early. Then yesterday my FI grandmother offered for me to wear her wedding band during our ceremony (I thought it was a great idea since we are getting married on her 60th anniv) but 2 other women in his family have worn it and 1 is divorced and the other is having problems. These items would be our something old/borrowed but do you think it will jinks us or do we just make our own luck?

I think you make your own luck. I say wear it with pride.

Ohhhh boy thats a hard one. Would your grandmother's feelings be hurt if you told her you didnt want to wear it? I am pretty superstitious so I personally wouldnt want to do those things. But I also wouldnt want to hurt her feelings. I think you are going to have to do some soul searching for this one.

I tend to agree. But it is also about compromise and if your FH is not comfortable with it then you two need to make the decision.

Yeah we will have to sit down and talk about it. I think it is my fault that he is. When my mom first mentioned the bible I said no and said I did not think it was good luck; of course she got upset bc she lost my dad(he was only 56). But now time has gone by my FI thinks its bad luck and now I think its kind of nice to have traditions. hmmm...

That's a hard one, I'm totally superstitious. If I were going to wear it, I would probably have it blessed or cleanse with something. :)

Ditto. I didn't even get married in June because my ex-husband's birthday is in June. Actually, it's today, but whatever.

We didn't even have a church wedding because I did last time and want to do everything totally opposite of how I did it last time. Ya, I am superstitious.

I say get it blessed, but if your FI really doesn't want you to use the bible or wear the band, then you have a tough decision to make.

Will your grandma be at the wedding?

It's totally up to you. I am semi superstitious BUT I think if you two are going to make it it's up to you to make it. I don't think a ring is going to change something. Maybe the two of you should give it some luck for future family members!! Even though your Mother lost your Father it sounds like they had a great relationship and that is a positive.

I would say I am superstitious as well, but at the same time... if all the superstitions and serendipity were true, what would be the point of living life? It is what you make of it.

Although, I will say that part of the reason Hiram and I decided to have a destination wedding was because we wanted to do the exact opposite of our parents. My parents divorced and never remarried and both of his parents are on their 3rd marriages.

I think that it is just a matter of separating yourself from the object. If there is some sort of course, maybe you carrying the bible and wearing the ring will stop it. You and your hubby-to-be can break the chain of bad luck.
