I was at my brothers wedding in Cabo in January and my mom and I got our hair done at the spa on the resort (RIU Palace) and I had photos of everything I wanted (simple stuff, soft updo and basic smoky eye makeup, nothing crazy) and it turned out awful. $300 later We pretty much looked like Mexican hookers. So understandably I am a bit nervous to use the onsite spa now, but I cannot justify spending the $800 outside vendor fee for a outside company.

Any opinions /photos/info you have would be much appreciated!!

My sisters, mother and I all had our hair and make up done at the spa...it turned out fantastic!  We were very specific in what we wanted and had them change a few things as we were going along on our hair, but they were very accommodating and not "irritated" at all by us wanting them to change some things as they went along.  I had taken a picture of what I wanted for my hair and make up and they replicated it well.  My sisters looked through all of their pictures (they have a ton) and just picked something out from there.  It took a bit longer than my WC said it would and put us a little bit behind for the day (about 30 minutes)...but they did a fabulous job!  I would recommend the spa to anyone!!  I did not have a trial of my hair or make up and it turned out GREAT!  Also....included in my package my FI and I got 15% off of spa services...the fine print says for ONLY the bride and groom...but since I paid for everyone's hair and make up they put it on one check and we got 15% off EVERYONE's hair and make up!  So that was really nice as well.

My reception will be on the beach from 7pm-11pm, is this going to be a problem? I don't want my guests being bitten while eating their dinner yikes!

We have traveled to this area many times and have always had problems with the biting bugs at night. So we are putting a little basket of insect repellant on our guest book table. Labelled "Be Smitten Not Bitten" or "Get bit by Love not Bugs"

interesting!! what exactly do you mean by attaching stones? wouldn't stones sink? im interested in doing this so i'd love to better understand how you will keep them from floating away :)

Hope you're all doing well =D

Just wanted to check in and see how everyone's planning is going!

I think I'm going to start my planning thread- I have almost everything ordered & ready to go!

And I know it'll be hard to put it all together after at once, so is this a good idea to start now?

I just received our favors from Factory 21- AMAZING!! We decided on insulated custom-printed travel cups, which will be very useful for our guests! I'll be sharing pictures of all the favors, stationery, and decoration I've received thus far!

What are your DIY projects???

I'll be working on painting & writing out everyone's escort cards & table numbers this weekend.

I'm also hoping to get all the materials needed for our centerpieces. I can't believe how fast time is flying by!!! Almost 3 months away eek!

XO

jen

I was wondering exactly the same thing as far as when to start my planning. I'm far from done but I do have A LOT done. I'm getting so excited seeing it all come together! Last night I finished putting our personalized DIY chapstick labels on. They look awesome. Hope your weekend projects went well... looking forward to seeing your planning thread!

You and I are both having our reception at Zavas Plaza.  So far, I bought lantern and stringed lights to wrap around the poles but i'm not too sure what to do for centerpieces.  What are you doing for centerpieces? Since we are having our weddings in the same week, would you like to share decorations?

Hi! Yes, I'd love to share. I think that's a great idea! I was also planning on lanterns. I'm bringing purple chair sashes for the chairs (which I haven already bought) and definitely some kind of table runner. I made table numbers, menus and thank you cards that will be at each person's seat and I am using maracas with a tag attached for place cards. I need to figure out the sweetheart table.

For centerpieces I am doing submerged deep purple orchids with a floating candle on top and votive candles around that. Something like this: 700

I think only about 3 vases per table, though. Definitely not this many. I plan to go to walmart when I get there to buy the vases, but I am bringing the flowers with me. I plan to order them through afloral. I used similar ones to make my bouquet and I love them!

These are the ones that I think will work for the centerpieces:

http://www.afloral.com/Silk-Flowers-Artificial-Flowers-Fake-Flowers/Lavender-Purple-and-Plums/30-Mini-Phalaenopsis-Orchid-in-Two-Tone-Eggplant

I talked to an online rep from afloral and she said I would need to spray a protective seal on the flowers bc they are fabric and since they are so dark they might bleed otherwise. I will def do a trail run at home!

Hey ladies is anyone else getting married on November 16, 2013??  As far as the spa goes for hair, how much time would you allow yourself??  Is the only option for music during the ceremony an Ipod?? Or can there be another form of music??  We are getting married on the beach at 4pm and our reception will be at Plaza Zavas:)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
