Chong, we really struggled with this as well.  We wanted something that would be really personal to us so that we would actually go back and look at it over the years.  Since Dr. Seuss holds a special place in our relationship, our guests all signed a copy of Oh the Places You'll Go!  They got really into it, finding certain quotes and adding to it, finding an appropriate page that really spoke to them and writing stories.  It worked out great!

I absolutely LOVE the postcard idea and if I'd known about it before we'd gotten our Dr. Seuss book, I probably would have done that.

Thanks ladies for the suggestions.

Wendy, I think the book idea is really personal and great idea.

murmel, I do think the postcard idea is very creative but we just don't thin that's for us.

Maggie, we might just end up doing the book with photos like you suggested. going to hobby lobby or michael's today to get a book.

Are you guy doing father/daughter and son/mother dance? we are thinking of not doing it all or just have it done at the same time... haven't talk to our parents to ask for their opinion... what if they say they would like to and we don't want to????

Hey chong!! Ryan had a guest book made of our engagement pictures. If you are interested, lemme know, and i will get you the company's name that he used. It turned out gorgeous! My other thought was to have a little photo booth set up. Just get a cute polaroid camera and have people take pics of themselves and write a little note. You could do a video guest book as well. I also did the postcard thing. I put an addressed postcard in the oot bags and had everyone write a note and mail it back to us. However, out of 50 people, I've only gotten 3 back. Hope this helps!

We did, both to the same song.  First my dad and I started out and then DH and his mom joined us.

I think that if your parents want to then you should consider doing it.  It may mean a lot to them (you only get to dance at your son/daughter's wedding once!), and agreeing to it would be one of the easiest things you could do to make them happy.  Waaaaaay easier than trying to figure out gifts :)

Well, IMO, it was worth going over budget. They're really nice!

I hadn't heard of this, but if anyone finds out, can you update us?!

Hi taylorwd,

Their target date is December 1st to fully reopen.  Congrats on your wedding when's your Anniversary?  I know I couldn't believe it when our TA sent us the pictures (her colleague was just in the area last week)!  We were so bummed, because we had fallen in love with AB, I cried for 2 days!  I mean I'm sure its going to be beautiful and better once the renovations are complete but unfortunately for us they won't be done by October.   And we just can't take the risk that all of our guests won't be at the same resort, so we had to cancel.  The frustrating part about it all is that we had asked them before we booked if there were going to be any off-season construction going on and they completely down played it, telling us/our TA there would only be 10-15 rooms closed for interior renovations.  It was only when we couldn't get two extra rooms that we realized the extent of their renovations.  I also hear that they own the Hidden beach resort next door to AB and that that resort is completely closed for renovations as well.  I just hope that other brides get informed about it, its really unfortunate.

I'm sorry you had to cancel everything. hug2.gif What's your new location?

I noticed this too but was told it was only Caribe and Matias that we could choose from. Never really got an explanation although I did inquire.

I hope you get what you vision for your wedding. We decided to go with just plain chairs - FREE. Sounds like you are looking at every detail to make sure it's perfect. Good luck!!! Don't stress out about it though.

Thanks Chong. The ladies here had some good suggestions, so I'm going to pay for my mom to have a massage at the resort when we get there and I'm going to go shopping while in Houston. I think I'm also going to do the engraved picture frame with our pic after the wedding.

I gave this task to my MOH and she found a place that does custom books and you can customize the pages. I didn't want a book where people just sign their names. I wanted something where people could write out messages/advice. Here's the site http://www.jennibick.com/. HTH!

You guys have amazing engagement pictures to make an awesome guest book. We didn't do engagement pictures. I've been actually having trouble finding good pictures of us from recent trips... Ah. It's been hard. I do LOVE the idea of the customized guest book. Thanks for the tip!

You are right. I've been struggling with the idea but I should just do it. I need to find a song that fits all of us and have it done short and sweet :) Thanks for the advice!!!

Ladies, I have more questions...

1) Did you pay to feed your photographer(s)? How does that work? Since I am using a Mexico based photographer for 5 hrs... I am not sure what to do. I am planning to ask him but wanted to see others did first. Any suggestions?

2) How long did you guys take pictures between the ceremony and reception? An hour? two hours? How long is enough to take all the pictures you need?

3) How early should you get your hair & makeup done? My ceremony starts at 530pm... I hear it takes about an hour to do the hair. An hour before the ceremony? What's a good time?

I am planning to ask him but wanted to see others did first. Any suggestions?  We negotiated it so that our photog's food was included in the vendor fee.  There were two and they both ate with us (same menu as all the guests).  It's common practice to feed your photographer.

2) How long did you guys take pictures between the ceremony and reception? An hour? two hours? How long is enough to take all the pictures you need? 1/2 hour of group pictures then a little over an hour of just us.  The time with just us flew by and I would have been sad if it were shorter.  Ceremony ended at 4:30 and the reception started at 6:30.

3) How early should you get your hair & makeup done? My ceremony starts at 530pm... I hear it takes about an hour to do the hair. An hour before the ceremony? What's a good time?  Definitely allow more than an hour before the ceremony.  Hair is about an hour.  Then there's the makeup.  Then you need time to get dressed.  Starting 3 hours before your ceremony is pretty common.  My appointment was at 1:00 for a 4:00 ceremony and there was no downtime in those 3 hours.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
