I did the same thing! I looked at my pictures so much that I got too critical. I started thinking about all the pictures I didn't get, poses and shots you all got that I didn't. LOL it passed and I of course love mine.

Ladies, I have a question! The resort is telling my TA that in order to block a group of rooms for May 2011 we have to put up $300 a room. Did you guys run into this? My TA was a bit taken aback with the price. I knew we might have to put something down. Now with that said it's not like I have to block rooms but to get the current promotion they are running you do. Any Advicehuh.gif?

Side Note: Current promotion if you block or outright book 20 or more rooms you get 20% off room rates and 20% off private events

Unfortunately, that's about right. Ours was $150 per adult, so essentially the same.

This is the eternal question when considering a group contract: Get one, lock in the rates and promotions but put down the deposit, OR don't get one, risk rates going up and/or the resort selling out (this last one might not be much of a concern with AS).

For us, we did the group contract and blocked 13 rooms. However, we already had our guest list at that point and told our guests that if they wanted to come under our contract and with our lower, negotiated prices, they had to put down the $150. We never even considered fronting the $$ ourselves. Our guest list was only immediate family, though, so that made it easier.

If you do put up the money, don't worry you'll get it back. When room balances come due, your TA will credit you back the money as your guests pay for their rooms. It can go to pay off your own room or they might reimburse you once it's all said and done. Each TA is a bit different.

Really?! Oh thank goodness... I thought I was going nuts, well at least that's the look my DH gave me when I told him :) I did that with my BD pix as well and thinking of all the shots I didn't get.

Yep, that's exactly right... I paid mine up front, 14 rooms is a pretty penny if you do the math. I filled up all my rooms and got fully refunded for my deposit. It's definitely worth it I say. Just make sure you have a good TA that will cancel any rooms if need be before the drop dead date.

I got 20% off rooms with 10 or more booked and 20% off special events with 15 or more rooms booked that's with the "bride and groom stay free package" we also got "free anniversary nights". Just this week I got the "get a free cocktail reception" when booking with a GI consultant added. This is all through Destinationweddings.com. But of course I also see what the other girls on here are getting and ask for it. (For example the free cocktail prty promo.) I am also doing the sky wedding and when i booked you had to do it with the silver or gold package but I saw that some of the other girls did it with the pearl package...and so I asked TA at DW.com and we made that work too. Thanks to this forum, already got a lot of upgrades and am saving a lot of money. (Still over budget but just by a couple of thousand and getting most things I want.)

Oh and my guests only needed to put down $100 per person to reserve the rooms. Again through DW.com. My TA can be sooooo slow, so much so that I've had to complain to her boss (didn't help) but I guess it was worth it because seems like I am getting a good deal.

Hope that helps you.

Ok so looking back, maybe I misunderstood a bit. I blocked out 25 rooms (but we've already booked 27, yay!) We had a month to get enough people to put down a 5k deposit. So I guess that works out to $200 per room. I asked guests to put down a deposit and then we paid whatever was left of the 5k. Since some people paid in full straight away, ended up only being about 1200 and we're getting that refunded this month now that I have 50 some odd guests booked! Whoo hoo!

Thanks for the pic. I was debating on this. Do you think it's better to this on-site?

Do you think because I am 10 months out they might not be as responsive as if it was closer? I do like my girl she has been really sweet so far, and sometimes she responds the same day but lately its been 1-2 week response time.

I function better with email since I work overnight. I also like to have a hard copy of everything we discuss. But, I can see how it may be more personal and possibly make them more attentive if you have phone convos. Maybe your WC will get to know you better that way and want to help you out more.

Love, love, love!!! Your pics are amazing!! I showed my MOH the other pics of your wedding (she didn't know what chiavari chairs were) and she said you remind her of Carrie from Sex and the City. I thought you might get a kick out of that.

And just in case you're thinking about it, if you are planning to sell any of your stuff let me know. I really need lanterns among other things.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
