I do like that option of using the Spoon restaurant the night before :) might suggest that to the other half and see what he thinks - would be nice to have everyone together for our last meal altogether. if we wanted to do that, do we have to book in advance then? or can we just wait until we're there and then book?

Katie.
sorry, I just got it! you're saying that just for the sound system they wanted to charge you $250 for your cocktail hour and then $250 to have it again for your reception!!!

I'm so blonde!!! haha

and I meant in my last para that it would be nice to have our last meal together before we're married.

god I'm not with it today! sorry!

After a lot of talk and tears (on my part) my FI and I decided on the weekend that we are going to cancel the wedding at Azul because it is just WAY more money then we had thought it would be. When we booked the recession had not yet hit and what we thought was a reasonable price for the resort at the time has become too much for our guests to handle right now. We got the feeling that people were saying they would go but really couldn't afford to and would be strapping themselves to do so. We did not want to put that burden on anyone. The thing that sucks is that we are probably going to loose or $3000.00 dollar deposit!!

This forum has been really helpful and all of you ladies are so friendly.

I wish you all the best on your day!

Its really crazy we have to pay for all of the additional add-on's at an all inclusive resort. One of the reasons my FI and I choose a DW is not to worry about all the wedding details and just have fun with our family and friends. We decided not to have a private event and to use the Spoon reservation. I told Tiffany already, I would like to request the curtained area now and if at all possible put in any input with the chef for the meal. I had her put all of this in my spreadsheet so its all in writing. We are having a big reception at home so we are not too concerned about the first dance, speeches,etc.. We really won't be missing any of it since we get to do it at home. I know we can do toast at the table over dinner and cake. The bottom line is, its really all about us and our special day. We know its not going to be private but with 40 -50 of us, we won't even notice there are other people around. More than likely people will want to get away from us. rockon.gif

Katie - Well it's good to hear that our guests won't be kicked off the skydeck while we take photos! We'll just have to make it quick if possible and just maybe have an annoucement that guests may mingle and to be at the named reception spot by a certain time, or have a program that's states as such so people aren't confused. Also, they do get a welcome cocktail as they are seated which should hold people for at least an hour. Also if we have music going for them it should be fine. I'm not paying for a cocktail hour and horderves at ANOTHER location.

I'm having my private dinner @ Zocollo Terrace because it's large, enclosed with a bar, room to dance and you can pull the shades if it gets cold, windy or rainy. I believe the minimum is 40 guests though.

For my 40 person meal at Spoon, I already booked it. I figured I might as well since I know I wanted a Sunday farewell brunch for my guests and I got a confirmation from Kiara, my WC.

I'm so sorry to hear that! It's definitely been a struggle for me as well, so I know where you are coming from.

Good luck, you'll have a fabulous wedding no matter where you get married since you're marrying the love of your life :)

Hi Ladies,

I was one of the brides that spent 13 months planning my wedding on this site(thanks for all the tips ladies!), then Swine Flu came about 2 weeks before we were supposed to fly out.

We had to cancel everything and luckily the only money we paid and couldnt get back is from Tamms photos. (if anyone plans on using her, get a quote from her and then let me know we got a really good deal from her that we could possibly transfer to someone else,@ heather riise hunder on Facebook)

We ended up moving 38 guests to (paradisus Princesa Del Mar) Varadero, Cuba instead.

I just wanted to let you girls know (the brides on a budget) that you may want to think of other options.

Our Wedding package at Azul with private event, Dj, cake, flowers, etc. was to be $9,435. US

Our wedding in Cuba included rehersal dinner for 38 in private restaurant with a trio band (they even cooked up my husbands fish he caught that day on a fishing trip) champayne toast at wedding, live band, decorations, cocktail hour, private dinner, cake, dj, decorated room, some flowers, basic photographer (bring your own!) breakfast in bed and a honeymoon dinner. The price for all this was $335. US. We saved over $9,000.00 and we were treated like GOLD. There were no additional costs for all the little things, they just wanted to make us happy on our special day.

We had saved up for the wedding ourselves and having paid for our wedding and still have $9,000 in the bank is a wonderful feeling to start our lives together.

I am sure Azul is so beautiful and breathtaking, but seriously the way they overcharge for every little thing is just ridiculous. Just something to consider,

Thanks again for everyones information, bright ideas and support through all of this,

Heather Hunder

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
