I agree with your FI about having the cocktail party from 5-6- it will be easy to redirect people immediately after to your dinner/reception location.  Don't worry about your guests until this time- I think they are more than self-sufficient, and might even appreciate the time to do their own thing mid-afternoon or to freshen up.  Where are you planning on doing your ceremony? Cocktail hr? Reception?

I have a bit of a predicament as well in regards to timing- our ceremony is at 3 pm over at the El Dorado Maroma chapel.  I want to have the reception at Zocallo terrace start at 6:30/7.  My TA is getting us a free cocktail reception; my question is where (EDM or AS) and at what time do I do it at? And at which resort should I take pictures at?

Hey!

I obviously haven't been to EDM but I would say the same thing, have the cocktail party there if you can so you can maximize time there. And like every review says, the beach at AS might not be the best for pics. I would just make sure you give your guests enough time to get back to AS for the reception once the cocktail party is over. (I have no clue how far they are from each other so I am not sure about times) And both destination weddings I have been to, it was nice to have a few mins before the reception to freshen up b/c it is usually stinkin hot! That is cool you are doing it at both resorts, I didn't even know that was an option!

I'm paying a pretty penny (a Lomas penny, if you know what I mean) to get our guests transported to EDM and back.  The only reason I am having our ceremony at EDM is because I need to get married in a Catholic church, which EDM has, which also comes with a lovely fee.  Guess I will get to preview the resort before our honeymoon there!...thinking positive thoughts to counteract all the negative ones about the ridiculous amount of extra money, in my opinion, I am spending for our ceremony.

I have found a way to get the fire dancers without having to pay a fortune. Thanks to you girls, a little research and some number crunching I figured it out. I found a company Fresa Weddings (great reviews online & very prompt to responding to emails). The company quoted me $650 for the fire dancers for a 25 minute show. I also noticed that they did flowers, cakes, and decorations, so I priced them against what I was getting at Sensatori.

Then I saw a post about the free Welcome Cocktails and someone using it for the wedding cocktail hour. (I was using mine for the day before.) I contacted my wedding coordinator at Azul and asked if I could use that free cocktails for my wedding cocktail hour instead...and she said yes! That is saving me about $1,200.

With Azul I would have gotten the flowers, sheers for the gazebo and a cocktail hour, but going with Fresa Weddings  I am getting the flowers, sheers for gazebo, cake pops, and a fire dancer show for only $300 more. And yes, the price difference does include the vendor fee.

YAY!

I have done some research and have a quote for $800 for a 15 minute show. But of course, Azul will charge an outside vendor fee of $800, so the total would be $1,600. I tried to get Lomas to give me a 15 minute show for half the price, but they did not go for that.

Have any of you other brides had fire dancers at your wedding? Or anyone else researching it and have more information?

Thanks!

That's AWESOME!  Nice work!  I think that will be so much better, because you will have more input with the flowers, cake, and decorations.  I was frustrated with ordering flowers through Lomas, because I couldn't talk to the actual florist too discuss what I really wanted.  My  WC tried to help, but she's not a florist, and if you want something that is not exactly like one of their options, it is hard to communicate to them what you want.  Plus the cupcakes I had at my wedding were HORRENDOUS.  Like seriously the worst cupcakes I've ever tasted, at over $6 each.

Just make sure to get IN WRITING, that they are only going to charge that vendor fee once.  But kudos for outsmarting Lomas!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
