I am having a very difficult time deciding between a Legal and Symbolic wedding because I am concerned about the Judge or Minister not being able to speak very good English.  I have seen a lot of wedding videos (some at Azul) where the judge/minister speaks very bad English and you cannot understand what he/she is saying throughout the entire ceremony.  We are having our ceremony videotaped professionally and it would be so much better if we could understand what is being said at the ceremony.  I really want to do the legal ceremony but now I am leaning more towards the Symbolic ceremony and getting married in US before or after the wedding.

Do you know if the Ministers for the Symbolic Wedding speak better English than the Judges for the Legal Wedding?

Is anyone having a friend or family member performing the ceremony instead of hiring a Minister?

I was wondering what other brides are doing?

Looking forward to hearing from everyone and thank you!! J

I had originally requested the legal ceremony, but decided to change to a symbolic ceremony recently.  At first I was worried that having a symbolic ceremony would take away from the experience, but after reading many DW brides experiences, I decided that a paper would not change the way we feel when we say our vows to each other in front of our family and friends.

I do believe another bride did the satin and they looked beautiful.  Just make sure they tie the knots tight so they don't slip! $5/chair cover was away to steep of me. Plus my mom would ruin it for me if they had any wrinkles......don't ask.  Growing up we ironed our bed sheets....why?.......She always said it would make us sleep better. LOL

My worry is that the point of it (to get to know everyone) will be lost a little a day and a half after we arrive!

Any thoughts?

As well, for those staying a week and going with the legal ceremony....which day out of your week are you planning your wedding day?  I know we have to be in the Country for 3 business days, not sure what makes sense...?

huh.gif

I'm doing the welcome cocktails the evening before our wedding.  Some of our guests are only going for 3 nights, so it will be the night they arrive!  I also thought they'd be a little tired to attend an event, so I asked some of my guests.  All of the guests I asked said they would love to attend a welcome party that evening, they'd be anxious to see each other and start celebrating.  Now, I'm even thinking of doing the dinner reservations after the cocktails...

I 'm having a private reception but i have to pay extra for the bows on my chairs. I 'm getting scared becaus ei don't think they have sheers or bows that match my wedding colours.

Reception chairs are covered with white covers and white bows (included in the sweet wedding pkg for free).   If you want the chairs covered for the reception and "your bows added" - make sure you tell them.  I had silver bows that I brought transferred from the ceremony to the reception thinking that they would just add them to the covered chairs and substitute my bows for the white ones - but they didn't.  The chairs at my ceremony were uncovered with the bows I brought.  I didn't really care - but if its important to you - let them know.

Im thinking exactly the same. Just bows no covers i have seen one picture earlier on in this forum and it looked lovely. But i like the plain white chairs anyway. Im hoping you can have the bows going vertically as it will be a little different!

Funny FI story today to share:

My FI is kinda random when he decides he wants to talk about the wedding or make a decison about something for the wedding. Today I am working and an email pops up from him. Randomly today he decided he wants THIS wedding ring.

http://ring-ninja.com/8mmbltiwisig.html  So I check out the website. Look for online reviews and decide that it's a legit good website. The reviews are great. I call and ask them about their return policy and it's great. You can pay with Paypal which i like WAY better then giving credit card directly. So I order it. The funny thing is this ring is SO NOT something I would think he would pick out. He is a bit more shall we say plain. This ring is edgy. He said he asked several girls in the office and they all decided on this one. HA, Very random for a Thursday.

My WC will be doing all the paperwork for my legal wedding in the Riviera maya. I´m having a legal ceremony performed by a Mexican judge who speaks Good English. Here´s her web in case you want to know more about it. www.floresjulieta.mex.tl bride.gif

Hi Melissa!

So funny that your name is Melissa and you are marrying a Chris too! cheesy.gif

I was all set on doing a legal wedding because I think the same thing as you so I totally understand....I feel like it won't feel as special if I do it before and I don't want to lose the feeling you get by getting married before.  I wouldn't tell anyone if we got married before but it just feels like it won't be the same feeling on my wedding day! Ugh...I don't know what do do.... The only reason why I am thinking of doing the symbolic wedding now is because I saw a video of a wedding where no one could understand the minister and I want to atleast be able to understand the minster a little bit.

I am unsure of what we are doing for this part either.  Can a minister not perform the legal cermony?

I didn't even think about their English not being the greatest...hmmmmmm.....

I think I will still have the legal cermony either way, I just feel like it won't feel as special if I do it before...I know a lot do though and say it was great!

Good Luck...it will be awesome either way!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!

I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else.
