Your wedding is going to be fabulous no matter what you do! I read somewhere on this thread that another bride really liked the ballroom because of the air conditioning. I'm so worried about my hair getting all frizzy lol so you won't have to worry about that!  I'm bringing all my own decorations for the cocktail hour and the reception. The only thing I purchased from Lomas was centerpieces. I have a pretty good amount of stuff but I hope I don't get charged the full $250 setup fee. I got my decorations from a variety of places - Michaels, Etsy, the Dollar Store, Wedding Linens Direct, Walmart... I ended up saving a lot.

I'm leaving Tuesday and I'm so stressed about music! Mainly during the ceremony because I'm bringing my own iPod... I just keep praying there won't be any glitches or skipping, especially when I'm walking down the aisle. I kind of wish I hired a harpist or something at this point lol. Ugh the nerves....

JMK,

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding.

We attended a Destination wedding in Jamaica last June and it was great but I had to leave early because it was so hot.  So, I vowed to have an indoor reception.  The downside is that I see all these beautiful photos and creative DIY ideas that work better for an outdoor reception.  I am now realizing that I would have to pay more than I would like for ballroom décor, or just have a very plain wedding.  SO my stress is I want it to be nice but not look cheap.

I put my fiancé in charge of music, but realized that was a mistake because his tastes are a little different. Like he thought  the Jackson 5's "ABC" would be a great song for the wedding party to come out to.  So, I convinced him we needed a DJ.  I'm not too concerned about the ceremony, but I have no idea what songs I want to use.

Either way, I realize that this is what brides do. We worry about details the guests may not even care about.

Best wishes and have fun next week!

Lola,

I know it's important to feel you have 'decorated' a space....but also remember you and your guests are there to celebrate you and your husband! (not the decoration!) The ballrooms are plain, however I think a couple of simple items could make it shine! For example the lights on the ceiling already have that beautiful draping, so I personally don't think you need to do much more there. As for the tables I think a nice centrepiece and some lights/candles would provide interest. If you are bringing chair sashes and table linens that adds the pop of colour and adds to your theme. Add small details like a personalized menu card, name cards and perhaps personalized napkins....and volia...you have decorated. Perhaps order one of the Vista print lawn signs to have posted at the front of the ballroom as an added detail. (in terms of decorating the whole space....I don't know how many people actually pay attention to that. Spend your time and effort on what is directly in front of them- the chair and tables) You could also bring some photos of your FI and you, and have them set up on the cake table or a table with a guest book. It's these details people will remember! I would suggest spending the extra money on the dance floor though, since dancing on carpet is just not the same. Plus it adds a centre point of your reception. Not sure what the cost is, but they do offer a dance floor that lights up! Which is super fun :) Plus most of the DJ's offer some fun props...balloons, masks, bubbles, glowsticks, etc.- your guests will remember these details...not if you had extra drapes hanging from the ceiling, or Christmas lights strung.

As for the set-up fee, for you and other brides. The local WC set this price after looking at how much time and items they need to set up. Is it just extra decor on the table? Do they need to have extra help to hang lights/drapes? Is it a few items or boxes upon boxes of extra stuff. They usually use the general price of $5/person for setup to give you an idea. The most I have heard has been about $300-but that bride literally had so much stuff it was overwhelming. I think I paid about $150 for 63 guests- we had them set up centrepieces (which we supplied), menu cards, name cards, candles, lanterns. Remember this has to be paid cash, since they pay the extra staff directly to set this up for you.

Don't be stressed! They do this almost daily. As long as you have the music marked in categories so there is no confusion, such as grooms entrance, brides entrance, signing of the registry, etc. it will play perfectly!

Safe travels and enjoy! The time goes so quickly, so really try to make a point of slowing down, enjoying the time with family and friends and letting the WC do the work for you! They are professionals and work hard to make it your perfect day :)

Hello brides to be & murmel!

It's been forever since I last logged onto this site, but I wanted to stop by and say hello!  Can't believe that it's almost been a year since I was married at AS- you ladies are in excellent hands  :) We're going back to AS in several weeks as a bit delayed 1 year anniversary trip; if anyone needs any pictures taken, information gathered or even if someone else is going to be there and needs in person advice, please let me know!

Take care ladies!

Hi Tamara! I can't believe it's almost been a year :) Crazy how time flies. We were just down there 2 weeks ago ourselves. It really is a stunning resort and so well designed with kids in mind. We brought our 4 month old with us, and I swear there was more baby gear in our room than at home! It was fantastic.

Have a great trip! And happy anniversary!

Good morning,

My wedding is June 20th and my details have to finalized and paid for May 6th.  When will my WC start requesting specifics? Meal choices, flowers, décor?  I finally got a hold of her yesterday to ask a question, but she didn't seem too pressed to do more than answer my question.

Will I get to make specific DJ and photography requests? I am using Mega DJ and Caribe photo.

What can I expect?

Hi. I was wondering if anyone has had complaints about "things to do" off the AS resort? How easy is it to get to either PDC or Cancun? I've tried googling what's in the area, but it han't been a lot of help. I really like the resort but wondered for people that have "itchy feet" if there is enough nearby to keep them occupied?

Thanks.

There are plenty of things to do in the RM/Cancun area, depending on your interests.

To get some ideas, I'd check out the excursions offered by some of the tour companies. Here are a couple that I'm familiar with:

Lomas Travel: http://www.lomas-travel.com/tours/

Olympus Tours: http://www.olympus-tours.com/

Some of the ideas:

--tour the ruins at Tulum (closest), Coba (short distance) or Chichen Itza (all day trip)

--snorkel - can be ocean or cenote or combination of sites

--scuba

--day trip to Cozumel or Isla Mujeres

--horse back riding

--4 wheelers

--deep sea fishing

--visit one of the eco parks - Xcaret, Xplor, Xel-ha

--swim with dolphins

--booze cruise or dinner cruise/sunset (catamaran, other vessels)

--speedboat or jetski tours

--golf

You can take a cab into PDC or Cancun; The resort may offer a shuttle into PDC - but I'm not 100% sure about that. I know they do at EDR, but it only runs at very specific times (that weren't so convenient for us).

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
