I was going for a looser look, but honestly, I'm glad she did it the way she did b/c it kept all day & night! I took advantage of the bridal hair & makeup preview- b/c I was nervous about letting someone other than my hair stylist from NYC touch my hair haha But all went well she understood the little things I asked her to change and wound up really happy with the results! I booked the appointments for myself as well as my bridal party & parents about a month in advance, through the WC. I wanted it to be taken care of before we arrived, then just followed up with the spa when we checked in and all was confirmed :)

Happy planning!

Hi!

Did anyone have an invited guest decide to give themselves a plus one??

One of my fiances friends has RSVP'd yes and added '+ a guest'... His invite did not say and guest, and judging by his reply he hasnt even identified who he is bringing!!  I am torn between thinking that it is always more fun to travel with someone, but this is our wedding.. and if he is just bringing some random along (or even a buddy????), then am I right in thinking I don't really want them at my wedding??  They can laze by the pool all they want, but....!!

I know this is not specifically about Azul but you ladies have been so helpful with everything else, I'd love your thoughts!!

I know it's your wedding and you want to know everyone and have an intimate feel to the event, but it's a long way to travel alone (especially if he's not close with any other guests). Does he know other ppl that are going? I would say put it on your list of things that you're letting slide. There are other things you're going to have to worry about. Don't let this be one of them. I know everyone has a different situation and circumstances are different for everyone, but I wouldn't ask someone to come to my wedding that far without a plus one. That's just me, though. Totally no offense!!! I just waned to give an honest opinion. Either way, your day will be wonderful. The staff at Azul will make sure of that! Hope this helps!

I would have to agree with MMK. Even though you may not have planned for this extra guest, your guest is travelling a very long way to attend your special day. And your wedding is one day...not the whole week. So I can understand your FI's friend bringing along someone to enjoy the rest of the vacation with. Plus, perhaps it's a new girlfriend or someone you know....Don't stress to much about it, and just be happy that your FI's friend will be able to attend. (if it makes you feel any better, when I got married I met 9 of my husband's family members for the first time...so for me literally strangers!)

And if you're worried about the added financial strain...don't count on your guests until the final RSVP/payments are in. We had certain people we thought were "for sure coming", which didn't come. And then lots of surprise people who we thought never in a million years...and sure enough they attended. And I know it's always difficult to plan budgets, but unless you are planning a lot of outings, etc. really it's only dinner which averages about $40/person. They are paying for the rest of their trip. (funny enough we had a destination wedding and were counting on about 20 guests....we ended up with 63...3 which joined in the last week! So be prepared for a roller coaster ride, but remember they are all coming to enjoy and attend your special day!)

I think I agree with the other ladies.  We only added a plus one if the couple was married, or if the friend or relative had been in a serious relationship for a while.  BUT, as it turns out, we have a lot of +1's.  Even though it has up-ed our numbers, it's still less people than we would have if we had our wedding at home, and, as mentioned, it's really just the cost of the 1 day.

Just try to enjoy the ride!

I've had other people who've had DWs tell me the same thing.  So far, we have 7 'extras'.  In two cases, the invited guests wanted to share the room expenses and in another, the invited couple wanted their best friends to share in the vacation.  I'm not stressing about it too much and have said, "No problem.  The more the merrier."  However, we still have 10 months to go before the wedding and 48 people have put down room deposits.  We thought we would have between 30-40 people attending.  If the total goes too much over 50, we'll have to re-think the stuff we had planned for the OOT bags so we stay more or less on budget. Anyway,  I have to think there are worse things then having too many people share in the joy!

I compiled my guest list by guests in the room. So if there was a known couple i listed them both, and if it was a single person, i factored in a guest for them because i didn't want them to feel like the third wheel if there were a lot of couples(i tried to think about things if i was getting married at home, the singles would have had a plus one) However, i did start loosing control of my guest list finding out guests were trying to get their whole adult family and their significant others to book under our room block (and we really couldn't have that because of the amazing response we were having to our wedding, we were getting low in our block). After much discussion we decided that the extra $$ to keep the drama down in mexico was more than worth it. Not having met/seen these uninvited guests in over a decade was not making me overly eager to accommodate and incur extra costs but we really wanted to keep the peace and realized it wouldn't deter from the fact that we just want to be married at the end of the day. In the end, we got 'lucky' and there was more family drama behind the scenes i wasn't aware of and that led them to book a different vacation in Europe, so the situation became moot. What stressed me out about it, was the assumption that anyone could come because it was an all inclusive resort and i started to panic that this could happen again in multiple. Hope that helps, and good luck!

Thanks to everyone for their replies and words of advice! I calmed down a little and thought about it, and of course, you ladies are right!! I wouldnt want to travel all that way by myself! I think it was more "the nerve!" haha. After more research this guy hasnt even booked his room yet, or contacted the TA (our room block is full & the no penalty release date was Aug 10 so at 25 rooms booked we arent adding any more), so let's see if he even shows up!!! You ladies are the best :)

I've gotten the invites out (arriving in some mailboxes today) and now i'm getting down to the nitty gritty of what to do for decor. I'm curious, what are people bringing from home and what are they using from the hotel. Lomas is just such an egregious waste of money (i would rather pay the extra luggage fee, i would probably still save hundreds). I'm getting the Pearl package, and am in Canada so i'm finding shipping to be half the cost if not the full cost of some of the 'cheap' items i'm finding online.

I've been addicted to Etsy lately - but the shipping costs are making me hesitant. I'm thinking i will have to take centerpieces stuff, chair sashes the whole shabang because I just feel its so over priced through Lomas.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
