I'm up in the air about having one since our guest list is pretty large - we're inviting 190 friends and family. Although, we expect about half to attend... But it's still a pretty big destination wedding! Anyways, I'm trying to be conscious about spending as much as possible and thinking about eliminating the cocktail party or having an alternative. Typically, I feel a cocktail party is required at a wedding but since this is a destination I figured I'd ask. What's everyone else doing? Any ideas?! Have any past brides had a cocktail party and really liked it?!

We did have a cocktail party between the ceremony and dinner. And although it was great for guests (since we went off and did photos), I think a lot just went to their rooms or headed to a bar for a drink. So unless you are getting one included with your wedding package, or feel it is required, I would skip it and save the money! And like Rachael mentioned- it's ALL INCLUSIVE! They can grab a cocktail anywhere, and if they are hungry there are plently of spots for a quick snack. I would not be worried!

Hmmm...I have no idea. Perhaps you could just purchase a day pass for the assistant? (I don't know if this will work) Yikes- I am sorry I don't know what to tell you.

Kathryn83. Did they charge you for the modifications? I asked for one change and they said it would be a $2.00 per person charge. I said HECK no. LOL

Oh, I'm interested to hear what your modifications are!

We swapped out some of the dessert options in favor of others that we think we'll like better from some of the other menus. If we had done a straight addition to the menu it would've been $2/item/person. I am not sure if the free swap is something standard or something I got because of previous issues we encountered with the planning process. I don't want to get into details but the resort "owed" me on a couple things so this may have just been a favor for our troubles. I'm also assuming that there would've been a charge if we wanted something that wasn't standard.

We're doing a cocktail party even though it feels superfluous and we have a super small guest list. FI's favorite thing about weddings is the food and I figure it'll help everyone stay in one place for pictures. Since we have so few guests attending, I want to get as many group shots as we can.

Yeah I booked DJ Doremixx. I asked Ivan (the main DJ) and he said he brings an assistant to set up. The assistant won't be able to get in the resort so that's why I just did the vendor fee vs 2 ppl in a 3 night room which would be more expensive and also a headache to ask Ivan to know who he will be bringing etc.

You girls all bring up a great point that its an all inclusive resort!! You definitely shouldn't worry about it and just let your guests go grab a drink at a bar or something until the reception. If I didn't have mine free trough my GI wedding coordinator that's what I would do. No need to pay for that at an all inclusive resort!

My WC (Lynda Gomez) told me that the vendor fee would cover the vendor and his assistant. So if my photographer brings an assistant it's $800 total for both. :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
