Azul Sensatori Brides - POST HERE!

Thanks so much murmel! Yes, I do want to go down to the market in Cancun and buy vases, but I'm nervous b/c what if they don't have the type I'm looking for. I planned on using real touch stems submerged in glass square vases [various shapes/sizes] with floating candles. Do you think I'd definitely have a variety to choose from down there? If I purchase flowers off the resort, do you think they'll have an issue with me using them? But actually if i picked them up that means going off the resort the morning of my wedding, never mind LOL Also, do you happen to know anything about the legal ceremony in Mexico, and if it's legal in the US? I see you're in Canada, so not sure if you'd know, but I'm at a loss here. Everyone i talk to seems to give me a different answer. If it won't be recognized in NY, I would rather just do a symbolic ceremony. I heard somewhere all we have to do is get the Mexican wedding license registered at our city hall and it's legal in US, but not sure if this is true & it's really the only step I'd have to do. I appreciate the help, if you can =) Thanks!!!
I really wish I knew the rules for the US. I know in Canada, you need to 1) have the level marriage certificate translated to English- the resort should do this free of charge. 2) take it to town hall and have them register it. If not you are just legally married in Mexico, not at home. I would guess it would be similar in the States, but not sure. Call your town hall and ask what they need. As for the glass vases, there is also a Walmart in Cancun as an option. Worst case, once you get to the resort depending on how many vases you need, the local WC might be able to help. I know a lot of brides leave their gear (me included). You might be able to work out a deal.
GinaP - During you meeting with your wedding coordinator, make sure you tell them to light the candles on the table. They should do this automatically but in case they do not make sure you tell them. Also, I would suggest designating a person (a close family/friend but a non-wedding party memnbert) to make sure they are lit. Ask an aunt or uncle or cousin or parent. Just ask them to check the candles on the table when they sit down for the reception.  If they are not lit, ask them to tell one of the staff members. Honestly, I should have been better at delegating tasks. Now that you know ahead of time, you will learn from my mistakes. :)
Our candles were lit, then re lit. But it was so windy it kept blowing out. I would suggest the battery ones.
Thanks Elaine! I plan on doing the same thing for center pieces. Just some candles on the table! I don't want to spend the money on center pieces! Thanks for the advice=) can't wait to see your pics!

Hi brides,

I'm completely new at this but I'm so excited to be planning my destination wedding set for June 25th, 2013.  So glad I found this forum and I was hoping that some of you can help me.

I would like to make OOT bags.  What did you guys put in them? And where did you get the bag and items from?

What did you guys do for a welcome party?  How much did you have to pay?

Did you guys come up with activities for the entire group to do? On or off resort?

Did anybody have their reception poolside at the resort? What did you you for decoration? Was it too hot, humid or windy?

I'm greatful for any help, suggestions and advice.  Thank you brides!

OOT bags- check out the forum under OOT bags for tons of suggestions and also information where to get bags and items for it. Remember this is a wonderful gesture for guests, but keep it reasonable!

You can check the Lomas website for different ideas/prices for welcome parties http://www.weddingsbylomastravel.com/planning/  Many brides will simply have all their guests meet at a bar on a specific night and welcome them there. Or perhaps a bonfire on the beach, cocktail hour, volleyball game,  meet at the disco, etc. You know your family and friends best...what would suit you and be lots of fun.

Did you guys come up with activities for the entire group to do? On or off resort?

This is a personal decision, some brides wish to organize an outing for everyone (perhaps a sunset cruise, visit the Mayan ruins, etc) or perhaps you want everyone to be able to enjoy their own time/vacation. Perhaps you could let guests know what your plans are, and should they wish to join they are free to. But if you don't organize something, it will save you a lot of effort, and /or money if you're paying. But perhaps you wish to organize, I am sure your guests would love it, and if you're paying perhaps use this as a thank you for attending your wedding.

Did anybody have their reception poolside at the resort? What did you you for decoration? Was it too hot, humid or windy?

We had our reception at Zavas Plaza which is close to poolside. There is a gazebo, so we hung paper lanterns and kept the table decorations minimal. The resort and your surroundings are so beautiful you don't have to do much! We got married in January, so it was very comfortable, not to humid. But it was windy (our candles kept blowing out)!

I'm greatful for any help, suggestions and advice.  Thank you brides!

For anyone who has done a reception on the beach in the evening-- did you need to buy/rent extra lighting?  And how bad are the mosquitos?

Thanks for your help!!

If you are having a reception on the beach, I know there is some light from the pathway just above. But I really don't know if there is much extra light provided, you may need to ask your WC specifically.

As for mosquitos. I have never seen many mosquitos down there. 1) it is really windy, 2) they spray for them, so it reduces the population. However on the beach you should be aware there are "sand fleas". Little critters that are on the sand, and have a nasty habit of biting your feet and lower legs. And the bites are itchy-similar to mosquito bites.

I did not have my reception on the beach, but I did have a bonfire party one night. The bonfire was small because it was so windy. I am not sure if it was mosquitoes or "sand fleas" but in the beginning some people were getting bitten. I luckily brought down two bottles of deep woods bug spray that everyone used. No one got bit after that.

Here's some pictures, so you can get a feel of the lighting. I did not anything for the lighting, but I am sure you could maybe bring some extra lighting down.

I actually totally forgot about making final payment. My WC, Elizabeth Torres, did not even remind me until about 2 weeks before my big day. We were definitely scrambling a bit, with respect to final changes, head count and making sure the math was correct. I am sure given the situation and the emails you have sent, they are aware they you need to pay. They will not make you pay until everything is correct and you approve the wedding detail sheet.  I believe you are getting married next month so you do have some time. No worries they will make sure the wedding detail sheet is perfect before making you make the final payment.  :)

Hi Jenny,

If you do the legal ceremony in Mexico, you will still need to take your Mexico documents and file them in the US to make it legal here. So it requires a trip to the courthouse or city hall either way. Between that, the blood test, the additional costs (translation, blood tests, etc.) and the 3 business day requirement, it seems most US citizens choose to do the legal paperwork in the US, and have a symbolic ceremony in Mexico. The Karisma resorts give you a "wedding certificate" to sign during the ceremony, so you don't necessarily have to tell anyone that's not the legal ceremony.

here's Lomas' website on the requirements:

http://www.weddingsbylomastravel.com/requirements/

We did the symbolic in Mexico, and legal in US.  And ended up with 3 trips to the clerk's office/courthouse: 1 to get our license, 1 visit to the judge, and then the 3rd to file the certificate with the clerk's office, and get certified copies. We chose not to advertise that we had our legal day a couple of weeks before we left for Mexico.

Hope that helps!!

Thanks for posting this info Allie.  We plan to do a symbolic ceremony as well, but it's nice to know that you get a "wedding certificate" from the resort....I don't want most of my guests knowing that we actually got married prior to heading to Mexico :)  We plan on celebrating our anniversary on the day we get married in Mexico.  For all intensive purposes for us that is the day we are getting married.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
