okay....so I've now spent a good 3 hours reading through this thread....I'm new here...I guess that's what you do?  I've learned a lot.  My biggest question at the moment...it seems everyone does a private reception.  I wasn't really thinking I would spend the money on food and drinks...since we've paid for that already with it being AI.  Is it crazy for me to be thinking this way?  My TA is a GI travel agent so I can get the free cocktail hour and several ladies have said they were able to do this cocktail hour after their ceremony and then we have dinner reservations included in our wedding package.  Should these dinner reservations be for the wedding night or a different night??  Would cocktail hour, dinner reservations, then moving to one of the fun bars be a fun/acceptable "reception"?  I do not see my wedding being "formal" or "traditional" it is a destination wedding. Not sure what to do.....

Rachel - No you are not crazy for thinking that way. You should do what feels right for you & your FI!!! I have learned through this whole planning process that there is no right way or wrong way. It is what YOU would like and how you envision it and of course what fits your budget.  I am almost certain there have been past  brides that did exactly what you hope or plan to do..cocktail hour after the ceremony and then using the private dinner (included in your package) as your reception followed by after party at one of the bar/lounges. I decided to use the private dinner, which was also included in my package, as a Welcome Dinner the night before my big day so all of my guests can get acquinted.

Congratulations!! And happy planning! :)

Has anyone used Caribe or Matias Cano photography?  Neither of their websites are impressive and I saw in another thread a girl who used Caribe and none of her photos were edited!  That just doesn't make sense, isn't editing the point of hiring a professional photographer.  I find it hard to pay such a large amount for an outside vendor though :(

Hi Rachel, yes some of the girls here have previously used Caribe (haven't heard anyone using Matias though).  It all depends on how much of a priority photography is for you as well as what your budget allows to spend.

I personally decided to go with Dean Sanderson- even with the outside vendor fee of $800, overall I am spending only a bit more than what a Matias Cano package would have ended up costing.  Other girls have also decided to use Mexico based photographers, while some bring photographers from back home so that they can have a photographer to document all the wedding week events.

I will definitely have to look into other photographers.  I am bringing a friend who is an amateur photographer, but does excellent work.  She is planning to do a lot of photography for me, but I thought it would be nice if I hired a photographer so she wasn't responsible for the "wedding" and could enjoy it as a guest.  She is a perfectionist and would definitely be stressed out if it were her responsibility alone.  It is important to me to have nice photos, but I guess I haven't put a price tag on it yet.  Hmmmm  Maybe I need to contact your photographer and some others and see what type of prices we are looking at here.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
