Ditto!!  We'd LOVE a mariachi band for our wedding but I'm already paying the stupid vendor fee for our photographer.  Out of principal, like someone else said, I just refuse to do it.  Knowing what I know now, I may have selected a different resort...

I felt the same way... I was really disappointed at all the extra costs but let me tell you that once I got there and saw how the wedding came together it was all worth! don't let that put a damper on your planning process :)

For those that have already been to AS- is there regular mariachi music at the resort? I'm wondering if you could tip the band upon arrival to make an brief appearance at your reception?

It depends,

I saw them at the Spoons restaurant one night but I think they have them go around the resort once a week. You can try but something tells me they would say no as they have to clear it with the coordinators.

I know there is one that wanders around the resort. But I can't really remember what night. We saw them at Zocolo (Mexican restaurant). If your wedding happens to be that day...you might get lucky, but I would not plan on it.

OMG! I bought my dress this weekend.....so crrrazy! I cant believe how much I love it! I was genuinely worried I would settle for something I felt "nice" in but let me tell you I feel gorgeous in it!! So dont settle for anything...when you find "the dress" you will feel like you can take on the world in that bad boy!! On another note, I need some feedback regarding the times of our wedding day events so please let me know what you think... We are getting married at 3pm and I want to have the private reception start no earlier than 6pm. To save money, instead of paying for a 2 hour cocktail party between ceremony and reception we are going to use the free 1 hour party from the GI special. So...what time should we start and end the cocktail party? I dont want to seem cheap to our guests and I dont want people wandering around wondering where they should go to burn some time. Or should I not worry about it? My fiance thinks we should have it from 5-6 so people can take pics with us after the ceremony and freshen up, and we can do our own pics without missing the party. I just worry about people not knowing what to do or where to go? What do ya think?

Congratulations on getting your dress!!! :) You should consider posting a picture for us to all admire it as well!

I agree with your FI about having the cocktail party from 5-6- it will be easy to redirect people immediately after to your dinner/reception location.  Don't worry about your guests until this time- I think they are more than self-sufficient, and might even appreciate the time to do their own thing mid-afternoon or to freshen up.  Where are you planning on doing your ceremony? Cocktail hr? Reception?

I have a bit of a predicament as well in regards to timing- our ceremony is at 3 pm over at the El Dorado Maroma chapel.  I want to have the reception at Zocallo terrace start at 6:30/7.  My TA is getting us a free cocktail reception; my question is where (EDM or AS) and at what time do I do it at? And at which resort should I take pictures at?

I haven't been to El Dorado Maroma, but I have heard they have a gorgeous beach with the beautiful clear blue water.  So I would definitely do pictures there, because it has a much nicer beach than Sensatori.

Do you know what time sunset is on your wedding day?  You want to pay attention to that to make sure you have enough time to get your pictures in before the sun sets.  And then plan your cocktail party around that.  I think it would be nice if you could have the cocktail party at EDM after the wedding, just to maximize the amount of time that your guests will be there.  That way you can tell them where and when to meet back at Sensatori for the reception.  But if it works out better with your pictures, and traveling between resorts, having it at Sensatori right before the reception would be fine too.  If you are planning on doing pictures before the ceremony, it might be a good idea to get a lot of the family stuff out of the way at that time, so you don't have to keep track of everyone after the wedding.

Christine - Sensatori is small enough that it is no big deal to leave your guests fending for themselves for a few hours while you take care of pictures, freshening up, etc.  They will have no problem finding the bar and entertaining themselves.  Nothing to worry about at all.  All of  your guests will be relaxed and happy to be on vacation, and will show up whenever you tell them to!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
