Just booked our room for 7 nights for our October 12, 2012 wedding. I am very excited. We received confirmation that the ceremony will be on the beach, the cocktail hour at Palapa Yoga and reception at Plaza Zavaz. Now....I have to start figuring out all the details.

We are not completely ruling out a DJ. The reason we are concerned with getting a DJ is because my fiance is very picky with music.

1. Has anyone used the DJ that the hotel offers? Thoughts?

2. We would like to avoid getting an outside DJ because of the vendor fee, but are open to any suggestions.

Hi,

we will be using their DJ. They are pretty open in terms of music, you can either supply them a list of songs or give them a cd with music. You can even email them in advance if you have any questions, the DJ's email is [email protected], they are nice and responsive. there are some perks to having a DJ, they provide party props and the mic for the speeches. Hope this helps!

correct me if i am wrong but i believe their DJ costs $1500 for 4 hours. the outside DJ  (DJ Doremixx) whic is 800 for 5 hours with additions. with the vendor fee it works out to $100 difference. I am going with DJ Doremixx they have already emailed me their songlist and it is endless in a ddition to you adding to it if you wish. My wedding will be July 28. 2012.

Yeah, 4 hours is really all I need I think. All receptions end at 11pm at which point you have to relocate. If your reception starts at 7 you're ok!

We just used the sound system rental, and used our Ipod playlists. There is a staff member who will control the system. (ie. they play the correct playlist for dinner, dancing, etc. They faded the music when guests came up to speak, and then turned the music back up) We were very pleased how it worked out, and I would not hesitate to suggest it as a great way to have dinner music, mic for speeches and dancing music.

 

If you want guests to be able to do requests, you might be able to arrange for a friend to help control the Ipod. But if you want someone mixing music with lights, you might want invest in the DJ.

We used our iPod and their sound system for our welcome party on the beach, and I thought the sound quality was great.  I had no complaints about that, and they did have someone there to man the equipment all night (not that we really needed it at the party because we pretty much just played my husband's songlist non-stop).  For our reception, at Zavaz Plaza, we hired DJ Doremixx.  We had Ivan, who did an awesome job, and our guests were dancing to the very end, and begging for more when it was time for our reception to end.  Our outside vendor fee was $500, so it was still cheaper to hire Doremixx than go with the resort's DJ, so it was a no-brainer for us.  Of course, I have never seen the resort's DJ in action, so I can't speak to his skills, but he has gotten a lot of poor reviews.  If it were me, I'd spend the extra $100 for Doremixx, since it isn't that much difference.  Or try to negotiate Doremixx (or other outside vendor) down from the $800 they charge. 

 

All that being said, I think doing it yourself with their sound system is a decent option too.  If you don't mind coming up with a playlist that you think you and your guests will enjoy and don't care about the extras (props, lighting, etc.), I think the sound system would suit your needs.  Whichever way you choose to go will work out perfectly well!

do you mind sharing where you read those reviews? if the dj is not so good... i'll consider switching to Doremixx.

I don't remember where I read the reviews.....but I know I've seen girls on this forum talking about the poor reviews.  Try reading the Sensatori's resort reviews on this forum....I may have seen something on there.  If I can find anything, I'll come back link to it.
