Hello Everyone!

We are getting married on a Saturday and I am trying to figure out if I want to have a welcome dinner beach BBQ or a welcome cocktail party. What is/has everyone else doing?  Also, I am trying to decide if we should have it on a Thursday or a Friday.  A few people will not be arriving until Friday but I though it might be better to have it on a Thursday but I am not sure. I am terrible at making decisions and I need to have a decision made by tomorrow.  We also have the 25 person dinner reservation that is included in our wedding package. We are thinking about using this too but not sure when...I am starting to worry that we might end up having too much planned if we do the welcome party, 25 person dinner reservation and the wedding reception. What do you guys think?

I really appreciate your help!!

Here is what I did and hopefully it helps!

I did a more laid back Welcome Beach BBQ the day before my wedding since that is when all the guests will be there and most of them have never met. With the 25 person dinner I got with my package I turned that into a "Family" Only dinner on Friday night since my parents and my FI parents have never met. I thought a quietier setting would be good for that.

So my timeline is

Thursday 1/2 the guests arrive

Friday Other 1/2 arrive and we have 12 person Family Dinner

Saturday Beach BBQ Welcome Party 4p-6p

Sunday WEDDING!!!

Hope that helps!

I really think it totally depends on the airline. I found out yesterday that Bags on Continential Flying Internationally to Mexico HAVE to be Under 50 to not get charges and your only allowed up to 70 pounds no matter what. Also they have "extra fees" so say my suitcase is 65 pounds not only am I going to get charged for the weight but also a $200 handling fee.

Also when traveling to certain countries on Continental you absolutely can only have 2 checked bags per person. I read all this on their website and i am callingtoday to get confirmation.

If I can't get these bags under 50 pounds then i am going to start to leave stuff behind and just mail it out with wedding annoucements or something. I am stuck cause all the people we could ask to take stuff are flying from other states...ARG!!! I know I will figure it out but it is fustrating.

My advice is maybe to try a trial run at packing earlier then 2 weeks before you go like I did. If I knew it was going to be this much stress I would have cut somethings out of my welcome bags

Sorry ladies, had to vent at myself....this is the only thing left that is causing me stress.

Hi Maggie!

I was thinking of the same schedule last night! cheesy.gif   You said your Welcome Beach BBQ is 2 hours...I think the one I was looking into is 4 hours.  What Beach BBQ private event did you book?  How much per person was it?

Thanks!!!

We flew with Sunwing, and had a lot of luggage. First thing you can do is upgrade your seats (if they are still available) to Elite class (?-can't remember the exact name). It will get you and your FI 30Kg of baggage each (includes your carryon). We then had our travel agent call Sunwing and bought extra luggage weight (an extra 20 kg)....I can't find my bill anymore, but I think it was about $80. So we had a total of 80 kg baggage allowance, for me and my husband. ****Big note: if you want the extra luggage weight you have to do it in advance!!! If you try at the airport, they may refuse it.

We did a welcome cocktail party on Sunday 4-6pm (63 guests). Most of our guests arrived on Saturday or early Sunday. Wedding was on Monday. And then we used the extra dinner reservation as a brunch for our bridal party on Thursday 11am (about 15 people). We didn't want to plan to many events for our guests, since it's their vacation time as well.

Maggie, I know it's really stressful. But try calling Continential directly and see if you can prepurchase extra baggage/weight. A lot of time the airlines put those restrictions on so that they can take for cargo on board (ie. weight they get more money for). If they have the chance to plan for your extra weight and you purchase it, you might find they will be a little for helpful! Or see if they will ship your baggage as cargo on the same flight....(ie. it would not be your baggage, it would be cargo)

Best of luck!

Funny you say that...I decided to nix the OOT bags for our guests, primarily for that reason. I didn't want to carrry a lot of stuff down that wasn't necessary.

Also again ironic everyone flying to AS is coming from different cities. The 4 people we have coming from our airport aren't coming till Saturday!

I will figure it out. I budgeted to pay for bags my problem is I om way overweight on all but our clothes bag.. I might need to add another suitcase :)

Our schedule is a little different because we are having two days of wedding related stuff, since we are incorporating both the Indian (My background) and Nigerian (FI Background) into the the festivities.

Thursday - Most of the family/ relatives arriving

Friday - Rest of the guest arriving - Optional tour to Chichen Itza for thsoe who are already in Mexico

Saturday - Indian/ Nigerian pre-wedding ceremony from 6-10

Sunday  - Wedding at 11am and recpetion at 6pm

I am thinking about using our 40 person reservation for optional brunch on Monday or a Family/relatives dinner on Thursday. Any thoughts?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
