My dress is so thin and straight that I am going to put it in the suitcase and have it steamed when I get there

My WC couldn't tell me but other brides I have talked to have said all different things. One girl was $3 a person and talked them down to $75 another was $125 another $150

Past brides can you report what your set up fee was. It seems like it's totally based on how well you can neogiate once you get down there. We have 65 people so I am going to shoot for $100 since I really don't have a lot to set up. I just have menu cards for the tables and my guest book, some lights, and seating place cards

I was also thinking of that other plaza just outside the premium section.  All of my guests are staying in the premium section, so I thought it would be convenient for anyone that wanted to freshen up.  But would that be TOO close to their rooms?  Do you think people would skip the cocktail party and just hang out in their room if it were that close?  Or am i over thinking it?

We're doing an hour cocktail party before dinner and we're just using the "front" part of the plaza for a standing reception.

I'm not exactly sure where that area is but I do know that people would be crazy to choose hanging in their rooms over a cocktail party! I'd probably be one of the people to go freshen up for 5 or 10 minutes, so maybe an area close to the rooms is a good idea. Let me know what your WC says about it. I was under the impression that there weren't many areas available but I probably didn't know what to ask for. That's awesome your group is staying in premium, no one from our group has booked there yet. Most are going for the least expensive rooms in the Azul section. Wish we had it in our budget to get a premium swim up! :)

Welcome and Congrats!!!!

For me, after a year of research, it was between Dreams Tulum and Azul Sensatori!  I choose Karisma because their pricing for receptions beats others by far and they seem to be great with kids!  Tulum was about an hour farther down the coast and away from the airport, so that could cause issues if you have guests who may only stay 3 days.

We booked at Sensatori, but we just recently relocated to Azul Fives, which is new, because Sensatori sold out and everyone wasn't booked!

Lessons I have learned so far:  Pick a highly recommended Travel Agent, very important!!  and the other is block rooms if it is important to you to make sure as many ppl get there as possible!

This board rocks and so that in itself has helped pick Karisma!!

Good Luck!!

Originally my fiance and I wanted to do our wedding in Croatia but the logistics with small kids traveling just don't add up and the flights are INSANE.

I came across the Karisma hotel chain on this site and have been scouring your posts and I am definitely intrigued!

We are considering a November Mayan Riviera Wedding - with multiple events (pre-wedding bash, wedding ceremony/reception, off property neat meals & cool excursions.

Considerations are that ambiance is important: cool, chic, not too crowded for a wedding of about 75-85 people including small children.

Where would you Mayan Mavens recommend that has the elegance but can accommodate small kids as well without having that crowded Disneyland feel?  Doesn't have to be Karisma, just looks great from the web site.

So looking forward to be a part of this with you guys :)

Welcome!

I did my site visit to the area last November (19-22) and the weather was great and most of the resorts weren't horribly crowded. It was right before Thanksgiving so there were a lot of families at some of the resorts (Dreams Riviera Maya - lots of kids, NOW Jade - 100% booked, just busy in general, NOW Sapphire - not as busy, Azul Sensatori - the least busy with the least kids, then again I visited on a "stormy" day). Our wedding is in October where there will probably be even fewer people and we're expecting about 80 with 2 or 3 kids. I'm thinking we picked the perfect hotel, that's just me!

The resort IS pretty secluded though so if you wanted to go to off-site restaurants, you'd need transportation and you'd either go to the tiny town of Puerto Morelos (15 minutes) or the more-happening Playa del Carmen (30+ minutes?). We''re still figuring out how to coordinate an offsite rehearsal dinner, snorkeling trip and possible day trip to Tulum (which may come after the wedding w/ a change of hotel).

Good luck!

I got quoted $50 for the steaming

Is you reception the spoons dinner for 40 people? I know that comes with menu cards but My reception is a private event reception that I am paying extra for. They did not mention menu cards for that

Sorry...I know this is a repeat question, but our group is so active its so hard to go backwards and find anything!

Christmas Lights.  How many 50 light strands do I need for Zavas Plaza?  I know there are 6 poles, but will 1 cover a pole or does it take 2?  or 3??

I ordered my lanterns today.  Yay!  I had delayed buying them because I couldnt figure out sizes and quantites...so I copied Amy!  She sounded confident with 6 - 10" & 6 - 14"   :)

I love this forum!!! I will never get any work done at my job :S

I just sent my deposit to reserve the date March 10th 2012!!! Yay!

I am using a destination wedding planning agency and they highly recommended Azul Sensatori. They said that they do a lot of wedding  there and have visited the resort themselves and their service was impeccable. The company is called Luxe Destination Weddings. They will deal with the WC there so I don't really have to make any long distance calls or worry about getting replies as well as collect money from people and bug them...weight off my chest.

Is anyone else using a wedding planner outside the resort?

Congrats to all the new brides! any 2012 brides out there?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
