Melissa, I think Tisha hit all your questions. I would have explained it the same way.

The hair Extentions are clip-ins. They were affordable I think I bought the higher level ones and they were $150 I think i would have to go look but certainly under $200. I put them in myself one night and they looked good. I think they probably are a ton better when someone does it for you. Plus you can use them MANY times. I am using them for my 2 bachlorettes, Boudoir shoot, bridal portrait and our events in mexico. Check out the website and the girl who runs it does a bunch of Youtube videos. It will give you an idea. She is really friendly and if you email her she will answer you and any questions you have. I will definitely post a pic when i get them done at the end of the month. The only drawback I had was she only had one AUBURN Hair extention so we had to dye them to get them perfect but it went really well.

At the resort I am definitely getting my hair done at the resort. I have a trial run on Sat (also doubling as hair for my welcome party but they don't know that) and then the real run on day of wedding. I am still on the fence about makeup at the resort purely due to the cost. but since i am not going to come near the number of people I thought we would get I might be able to afford it. If the FI lets me spend.

Anywhoo, Maggie, thanks for the info on the hair extensions.  How do those go in?  I looked into the heavy duty ones and they quoted me like $700!  I certainly can't afford that.  I have super thin hair though so I would really like some extensions in for the special day.

Blood work was easy!  I donate blood and work at a hospital specializing in infection prevention and control - so I have no fears about needles or blood. The needles are single use, sterile and pkg is opened in front of you.  I made the person wash her hands with alcohol based hand rub prior to touching me.

I did see 2 guys and 1 girl come in to give their blood during the time we were meeting with the coordinator - they were freaking out - one guy especially.  So don't be worried if it gives you the ebby jeebies - I think they see it all the time!
I do have my mexican marriage certificate in hand!  I forgot to get the english version while I was down there though!!! Even though it was in my detail sheet - but I guess we all forgot.  I am in the process of determining if I can still pay for one and have it sent here.

I have super thin and fine hair too!  I had extensions made by the person who also styled my hair.  It was a cash deal - 100$ - and I have more than plenty for any type of style or thickness.  It is real hair - she just attached pieces to super strong clips.  LOL - my husband even wore some for fun (he has a super short boy cut) and they stayed in solid - in fact he couldn't get them out without my assistance!

I loved my hair with the extensions and can't wait to keep using them in the future.  A couple days after the wedding we did another photo shoot and I put them in myself - very easy.

See if you can't negotiate a side deal with your regular hairdresser!

Looking at my spanish wedding certificate right now - I think its Aux. Lic." Gonzalo Jacob Ramirez Saldana".  He was there for other weddings too.  I just requested an english speaking judge in my detail sheet and that is who I got!

Our photographer was Steven Lee with "The Photo Studio" in Markham Ontario. He came with his wife Kelly who is also a photographer.   I highly recommend them!

It was included in the "free sweet wedding pkg" we went with.  We used it for a farewell dinner.  Its pretty private but it is inside the one big main buffet style restaurant (Spoons)- kind of off to the side).  The section is elevated by a step or two from the main dining area and it is closed off for private parties with light sheers that you really cannot see through but still allow light to pass.  The menu is a set menu that they print off for your guests and personalize with your names.  It was a very tasty dinner - menu incl: ceaser salad, bean soup, choice of chicken or beef for the main entree and cheesecake for the dessert.  If you wanted to save money on a wedding - I think its a nice area for a free reception - and they had very good and attentive service.  My only suggestion would be to print off my own menus if I had used it for a wedding - their menus were a folded 8x10 piece of paper with our names on it and the menu selections - all black and white.

I think you can have your marriage cert translated to English here in Toronto. I believe it was Nicole or some past bride (sorry I can't remember her name!) from Ontario who told me that I could just use a translator from the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Ontario. I believe that's what she did too and she only paid $50!!

Fabulous news!!!  Yay!!

Does anyone know how timeshares work?  I'm wondering if the all-inclusive price they pay per day is accrued by how many nights or how many days.  It seems unfair to charge the first and last days full price b/c your typically only there half the time.  I also found out that my daughter is full price, the same as an adult.  Boo, my mom had told me the kids were half price.  :(

Glad you had a great experience.  I am having a legal wedding at the resort too, so I am relieved to hear how well it went for you.  Congratulations on being a Mrs.!  I have Palopa Yoga for my reception because Zavas was already booked.  Any suggestions on how to make it look nicer?

We stayed in a honeymoon suite ocean side and all of our guests were upgraded to the premium section.  I will post a detailed review in the next couple weeks but here is a summary of the events we had:

welcome cocktail reception at palapa yoga:  great canapes.  Our friend brought an amazing bose sound system and we danced a lot.  We also had a cigar roller which really impressed a lot of our guests. Very good security - they even tried to stop my sister from coming back from the bathroom b/c they said that there was a private event taking place!  LOL.

ceremony at beach zocolo:  wonderful location - still my favourite.  My guests told me that they even stopped people from crossing behind the ceremony.  Very important detail for brides who want a legal marriage at this resort - the ceremony CAN BE PREFORMED IN ENGLISH!  There was no problem with this - its not a requirement to have the ceremony in spanish at all!!!!  The judge was also open to adding anything we wanted before and after his "official speech".  He does have a script he has to say and the wording was fine to me - and again - it was spoken in ENGLISH!  (only emphasizing this b/c I know a lot of people on this forum have changed their decision to have a legal wedding in Mexico because they thought it needed to be spoken in spanish).  I added the hand ceremony and sand ceremony to our wedding and incorporated family.  One thing that took us by surprise is that you have to thumbprint your wedding certificate after you sign it - make sure you bring a wet nap to clean your thumb afterwards!  The judge had a dry napkin but it was hard to get the ink off our thumbs.  I was concerned that I may touch and damage my wedding dress - but in the end this did not happen.

Reception:  @ plaza zavas.  Very nice location.  Food was family style and servers served guests individually.  The assortment was amazing and guests loved the variety.  The lobster tail was a big hit.  Food was plenty and seconds were abundant for those who desired.  Amplifier was rented - great sound.  The only thing that kind of sucked is that when your time expires - they are quick to shut it down and start removing all the linens, decor etc.- but I guess this is to be expected - we just moved the party to the mojito lounge.   We hired the mariachi band - awesome dinner entertainment.  Big hit with the guests and nice touch to the ambiance.  Our cake was a cupcake cake and it was fantastic - better than I expected.  We had a petit cake on top with our personalized cake topper (bobble heads to our likeness).  It was a hit with guests and no where near what I thought it would cost.

Farewell group dinner at spoons:  awesome too!  Menu is std - ceaser salad, bean soup, choice of chicken and steak followed by cheesecake.  Great presentation and flavour.  Guests all complimented the food.  Only thing that happened is that some guests were really hungry when they got there and collected a few plates of snacks for the table from the buffet.  Apparently the servers did not look to pleased about this - but did not stop anyone from doing this.  The section they close off provides a cozy semi private area for entertaining your guests.  I think it makes a nice area for a wedding reception for those of you who are looking to save money by not hosting a private reception.  We were an hour late for our reservation - 7:30 instead of 6:30 - and they were still very accomodating.

My biggest recommendation:  bring your own photographer if you can afford it.  Our photographers were amazing.   They captured ALL of our events and had no strict time limits. Other things they did for us:

1.  Engagement photos at the tulum ruins

2.  Trash the dress #1:  used a long white dress from BCBG I purchased and we went to a cenote for some creative photography.  They got tonnes of underwater photos of us and photos that captured above and below the water line.  These are the photos I am looking most forward to seeing.  Even when we felt pressured to get back to the resort because of time constrictions - they kept encouraging more photos!

3.  Trash the dress #2:  used the original wedding outfits - didn't trash them totally.  Lots of cool and amazing shots again.  Over 500 photos taken in this session alone.  LOL.

Our photographer is from the Toronto area - and I would HIGHLY recommend them to any bride!

I can't wait to see all these pics and more! I will post some when I get them.

Only thing I would do differently - stay longer!  Normally we are not fans of staying at an all-inclusive resort for more than a week but we wish we had chosen the 10 day option. Everyday we were busy with one thing or another and when we weren't - we were trying to spend time with all of our guests.  It left no alone time to unwind.  We decided to go away in April now...Even some of our guests requested info on extending their stay - a testiment to how nice it was to stay at this resort.

Good luck to all the ladies that continue to plan their weddings!  I will post better details and photos in a planning thread as I find the time!

Natasha

I got a new coordinator today too.  Elizabeth in for Angie.  Did you order a dance floor with Doremixx?  I decided to skip it and now I'm wondering if I made the right choice.

bryteyedbride - I haven't ordered the dancefloor even though it looks awesome. It wouldn't be big enough for our group (80ish expected) so we decided to skip it for now. I REALLY REALLY wish they'd allow the cold fireworks. I asked my new coordinator again just in case she gives me a different answer. Do we know if Angie left?? I sort of told my DW.com TA that she wasn't getting back to me about things but I was actually pretty nice about it!?

TLGnhci - oh good! Glad you like Erika so far!

Hi  1106wedding!

I don't know if Angie left.

I THINK I will be getting a new DW.com specialist in the next few days too.  I have not cared for mine for several months, but was trying to just deal with it.  My sister really got upset with her earlier this week, and that kind of got changes rolling.  I had pretty much just stopped communicating with the DW specialist except for on an absolutely "as necessary" basis.

I have to say that when I spoke to customer svc at DW.com the representative (Amber) was very nice and genuinely concerned that this be a pleasant experience for me.  When I last spoke to Angie she told me that their priority was the January and February weddings.  Amber let me know that my wedding should be a priority even though it is months away.woot.gif  I am pleased and very hopeful that I don't have anymore problems.  This experience with Amber made my whole impression of DW.com change to a more positive one.

I wanted the cold fireworks too.  My reception will be on the beach at Palopa Yoga because Zavas Plaza was not available.  Let me know if they change their minds and allow it though, as it would be nice!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
