Toronto bride: travelling Jan 22/11 for a week with our wedding day on the 26th at the Azul Sensatori.  Invites are out; responses due by Aug 31; around 30 or more confirmed at this pt.  Booked through "The wedding holiday" in Mississauga.  Bringing my own photographer from Toronto - willing to share with another Toronto area bride if interested and your wedding date isn't the same day!  At some point I guess I will worry about the wedding pkg deets we upgraded to - unless there are some other views?!

Welcome!!!  You seem to be well on your way!

Oh no!!!!  Sorry your FI is having a meltdown over the price.  PM me your email address and I'll send you our breakdown.  Like Maggie, we met somewhere in the middle of where you guys are with 30 guests, 10 days at the resort, and we paid for my mom's entire trip.

You will have a fabulous time!

The only thing that I would complain about is the hair salon!

I paid for a hair trial and was very happy with my hair and the girl who did it, however, on the day of the wedding, that girl was nowhere to be seen!!

Also the co-ordinator had booked my hair appointment for 1.30pm and I was getting married at 4pm.  At 2.30, I was still waiting to get my hair done!  they eventually got another girl to start curling my hair, but then, when the trainee girl (who couldn't even curl hair properly) had finished with another client, she was brought over to finish my hair!  I was not happy.  She did not speak any english and I could not let her know what I wanted.  I wanted a messy side bun, but all she did was sweep my hair to the side and pin it.  I ended up bursting into tears because all I could think was that I would have awful hair on my wedding day!  They ended up having to phone for another stylist from another resort just up the road and I felt crap on my wedding day when I should've been excited!

I was eventually happy with the hairdo, however, did not get out of the salon until 3.15pm!  Ended up having to run back to my room and slap on my make up and throw on my dress in a last minute rush!  Was definitely not how I imagined the getting ready process on my wedding day!  I thought I would be sipping champagne and taking it easy.

I would just advise you all to make sure that if you are having a trial, make sure it will be the same girl doing your hair on the day, or there is no point!  I would also advise you to get an early hair appointment, as they did tend to run over if there are a few of you getting your hair done!

Gorgeous!!!  I LOVE your dress!  The back is very sexy.

Sorry you had such a terrible start to your day, but it looks like everything turned out beautifully!  That is great advice for the B2B's about making sure the trial person is the same as the day of person.  How stupid on their part to have changed people on you!

I can totally picture the beach with purple sheers on the gazebo and bows on the chair and those dresses...

I can't believe I actuually made a decision.

Funny think is...that purple color is what I originally wanted the 1st time I got married...but I wound up finding these awesome black dresses with fealthers on the hem (sounds awful...but they were really pretty) so..it all changed....

This time....I get to do it right :)

What do you guys think?  What color do you like the best?

So I might be a little late, but I was going to vote for dress #2! Sounds like that's what you're going with now :)

I'll see you down there. Depending on your color choices, we might be able to share some decorations. I am heading down on January 19, to be married on January 24. So far we have 41 guests booked and more coming. Most of our guests will be on your flight, January 22! LOL

Our colors are turquoise, green (sorta a light/lime tone) and white. We already have a photographer coming with us as well. So I can't help there, unless you haven't booked yours yet. Our guy is Taylor Jackson.

Welcome to the forum and happy planning! Miriam

We haven't really figured out what our total will be, so I can't help there. But we are flying in our photographer for $3500 total. And even though you might be at 20K, it's still less than 40K and the wedding you want. Wish I could help more with the other numbers, but I'm still figuring that one out myself.

thanks so much for the review! Beautiful pictures. I had planned on doing my hair at the salon, but my FI hairdresser is coming down with us, and will now be doing my hair and makeup :)

We spent about $22k and our budget was $15k.  But in addition to our trip and the wedding we also paid for our 3 children and the photographer's trip and fee.  I didn't order flowers or centerpieces from AS.  We had 50 people and had a cocktail/welcome reception and dinner reception after the wedding.  I think you could probably do it for $15k with some serious budgeting but I think $10k is unrealistic for what you want.

I wasn't aware that was how it was going to work. We qualify but we booked the free foom for our photog. I was told we were paid in full from the TA so I'm assuming she deals with the refund with the resort. Maybe I need to double check this.

I originially thought that it would be a discount off of our room but my TA said we had to pay everything in full and then the discount would be issued as a refund 10 days after we return.  I'm guessing that since you used the room for your photographer you wouldn't get a refund.

We are planning to be somewhere in the middleof where you are at with the budget.  One thing that helped us was bringing our own photog, I thought it would have cost quite a bit more but with encouragement from the girls on here, we started looking for someone to bring from home.  So that being said we started asking around and quite a few offered their services at a lower rate just for the opportunity to go.... We found one locally and will be paying for her trip and a small fee for her to do the wedding, she has also offered to do the day before, day of and a TTD the day after...So we are getting an awesome deal.  So long story short, look into bring one with you.

Hi Ladies....I've been MIA focusing on non-wedding stuff. I hope you are all well.  Everyone's photos look great and I can't say enough how helpful it is when you former brides come back and share your insight. It is worth it's weight in gold!

Anywho, I just wanted to say this without saying it and starting any chaos.  Regarding the photographers.....should you select a Mexico based photographer (obviously not Del Sol) who requires an overnight stay but does not require the full 3 nights that they are asking us to pay, NICELY request that Karisma allow them to stay less than 3 nights. It can be done....if you don't get my drift, PM me. Please don't take what I just shared and run angrily to Karisma or your TA. I'm trying to share with you all without ruining it for myself and my FI. I hope you understand where I am coming from. Take care, Ladies.

Ok ladies...so I have been MIA. I was having some trouble logging on to the site and at 46 days until the wedding and 41 until I leave for Mexcio, I've had to really focus on all things wedding. (Not that I actually have...in fact, to be very honest, I am sort lost not sure what I need to do next and thus, have been ignoring the wedding.)

I am trying to catch up on everyone's posts but here's a little info that I can share off the top of my head.

A wedding between 10 and 20 is so doable. You need to work it but so doable. I am having 65 ppl and am doing the sky deck, cocktail reception, recpetion, dj, centerpieces, you name it and at just under 17,000 with travel and group excursion included. But when I say you must work it, I mean it. I pushed and pushed for every discount I could get. Ultimately, I got the free wedding package, the bride and groom stay free promotion, free cocktail reception, 20% off all food and $10 chivalri chairs. (Please don't rat me out about the chairs, this was a hard one and one I really pushed for.)

For those of you who have made decisions on decor and flowers, congrats! One thing, make sure you are running those pics past your WC and asking for a quote from Lomas. I thought I had a lot of things nailed down and when I get an official quote had to make some changes. In fact, I am still working out the centerpieces. And my final payment is technically due tomorrow.

Great to know about the hair. I am getting my hair done there even though the price is very steep. I am going to practice with a bridesmaid and maybe she'll be able to pull it off for me. That would be great.

Ok, so for you ladies who have already been married, please let me know what I need to be working on! I think next step is picking music, writing the ceremony and figuring out seating arrangmenets. Here is what I HAVE done in the past few weeks:

1st dress fitting (I found a tailor that will do it for $700...more than I wanted to spend but way less than the $1100 I was originally quoted)

Bought FI's ring (HE LOVES IT...good deal in LA's diamond district)

Sent brouchures to guests

Ordered wedding shoes

Ordered  wedding place card frames

Ordered custome OOT tote bags

Almost done with my "Weekend Warrior Kits" aka Hangover Kit

Purchased all but 2 frames for family photos

Made, ordered and recieved welcome postcards for the OOT bags

Made, ordered and recieved hang tags for the flower petal bags

Ordered dried lavendar for the aisle

Ordered jordan almond and favor bags

Bought sticky paper for custom chapsticks (still need to put those together)

Ordered and recieved table number holders

Been working out finally (down 5 lbs! onlya couple more to go)

Got groom's tie

Ordered and recived ring bearer pillow

Here are some things that I need to do:

Finalize centerpiece choices

POssibly order candles and votives for centerpieces

Get string lights for the Zavaz Plaza

Get fabric for custom table runners, send to my aunt to sew

Figure out ceremony music

Figure out cocktail reception music

Figure otu reception music

Seating chart

Table numbers, place card frames

Get approval on signtaure drink

Print menus

Put together ceremony program (and print it)

Do custome chapsticks

Write the ceremony

Finish fittings

Order jewelry for the bridesmaids

bridesmaids and groomsmens gifts

get veil

get accessories

get groom's pocket square

get my son (the ring bearer) a suit

Ok...so nevermind...I think I answered it for myself but please do let me know if you think that I am leaving anything off. Wow, that's a long list. Man, I have to get to it. FI has his bachelor party this weekend. Here's hoping I can get a ton done while being home alone with a wild little 13 month old. :)

Wish me luck!

I know!  I saw you after I made my post!  Did you book with the wedding holiday?  They have "special" upgraded pkgs that include decor and also more than 12 chairs for guests (a pkg that I can change with no problems)...I'm not picky colours - my bridesmaids will be wearing black - but I am prefer simple elegance - a turquoise background is something we've both agreed would be what we prefer.   How did you arrange your decor - I assume you are going w lomas????

Funny your guests will be travelling w us!   I think we are at 30+ and counting leaving the same day - but I haven't checked with the agent - just going by the replies!  Did you meet any others travelling to our resort the same time?   We are a pretty crazy bunch - look forward to having a tequila or two on the beach!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!

I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
