We were very clear that we didn't want gifts brought to Mexico, and no one did.  We did get a card or two, but guests gave us those either the days leading up to the wedding or after the wedding.  Since a DW isn't a traditional wedding, a gift table isn't something I think I've ever seen at one.  Your guests will see you and have chances to give you cards at times other than the reception.  Most likely they'll take advantage of a quiet moment when you're not around other people.  That's the beauty of a DW...quality time with your guests!

We rented the CUTEST house right near Texas Tubes on Market Street from homeaway.com

It was really great and we are planning on renting it again next year!

I have mixed feelings about them in general (ie I think they're a waste of money and a simple basket placed out would suffice just fine).  Also, I'm not keen on trying to bring down extra stuff - so unless the cardbox were to fold down etc. for travel then I'm disinclined.

Beaz, I did not bring a card box or a basket with me and we did not need to.  We got MAYBE 3 cards at the actual reception.  A couple gave us cards that day before the wedding, a couple the day after the wedding, but the majority of people did not bring anything with them to Mexico.  I would be interested to hear what the other brides received.  Also, I had an AHR so maybe that was when people expected to give us their cards.

My husband ran to the room after the wedding was over and put our cards into our safe.  We also had to drop off our toasting glasses and a couple things I wanted to save, and then we made our grand entrance into the tequila bar!

You could designate a family member or trust worthy friend to do the same for you if you don't want to have to do it yourselves.  In Ireland, its tradition that the best man hold the cards for the bride & groom.  You actually give the cards to him.  I like that idea.

I've got to find something soon!!!  I was thinking flowy beachy dress for Mexico but then saw so many brides with more traditional type gowns so I am confused.  Then to top it off with what to wear for JP wedding...short and cute or flowy or traditional types???  So many decisions!!

I wore white pants and a blue shirt to my legal wedding.  I did not think I needed an outfit and FI wanted to downplay it as much as possible - t make Mexico more special.

Deciding on a dress is hard!!  What type of wedding are you anticipating?  Do you want your guests in shirt & ties and formal dresses?  Or do you want them in beachy wear?  Go with the theme of your wedding and how you envision it.  I wanted flowy and beachy (men in flip flops) so I got a beachy dress.  I saw 2 other weddings while there and they were both much more formal than mine - and I have to admit - a formal wedding on the beach was a really cool contrast - I could not imagine it myself until I saw it.  And I liked it a lot!

We stated on our invitations that we did not want any gifts. So I am hoping that people listen and don't bring anything. If people do bring cards, I hope they will just give them to us as some other time than the actual reception. Personally I would not bother with a cardbox. perhaps if you're worried about it, tell your BM/GM to let guests know there is no cardbox and to personally give you the cards on another day? Or let your BM/GM take the cards and put them into a room for safe keeping.

Glad to hear other people have done the legal wedding, but not made a big deal of it. I just want FI and I to go and quietly do it, while his parents want to come down and have dinner to celebrate on the day....we're still trying to figure it out.

I'm excited girls.  I've been working with a friend of mine and I believe have finalized our invitations.  :o)  My mom and I are going to embellish them with raffia ties and sand dollars.  What do you all think?  I loved the ideas on here with the passports but I wanted to skip the save the dates and thought it would be quicker to just make something less elaborate.  But, I think she did a fabulous job and I am very happy with them!

Yikes ~ Big news!!  Just read on the forum that Mexicana Airlines has filed bankruptcy!  DO NOT book with them and if you have guests booked through them, you may want to check it out.  I was considering them for our airfare.  Glad I have this forum!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
