I would say deal with it when it comes along. I was paranoid that people's feelings were hurt if they weren't invited, but most understood. Also, know that everyone won't come. We sent out 100 STDs (about 200 people) and less than 50 have booked. On the flip side, don't invite people you don't want to be in close quarters with or people you don't think will mesh well with others. Since it's gonna be a small wedding you WILL have to deal with everyone there on a more than usual level compared to a large wedding.

I completely agree with AmyB about having people "on your side." That way some of the battles can be fought for you by others AND a lot of the chattering will only occur in the background. You may never hear all of people's concerns and that would be great if that remained the case. Let someone else deal with all of that.
I know for sure 1 of the girls is in...90% sure on the 2nd...it's the 3rd I'm wondering about...
I think I'll send a "welcome" email with ideas for dresses and colors, etc...and basic prices (my website info, etc...) and go from there :)

The good news is FI and I sat down last night and cut our guest list waaaaaaay down...these are all people we think will actually go and all people who we really want there :) If it turns out that a couple of them are nos...we can re-evaliuate and maybe invite from the B list....

You two totally made me email my TA and request info on that resort as maybe our 2nd week switch...as of right now we have decided to stay in one place...and FI doesn't really want to go to Cancun (I don't know that I for sure do either) All I think is Spring Break and craziness...convince me I'm wrong :)
I am getting married at Le Blanc in 3 weeks! AHHH so I will let you know. FI and I were TOTALLY TOTALLY TOTALLY against getting married "in" Cancun...we preferred the Riviera Maya. BUT this resort is so fabulous (from what I have seen)...and they supposedly treat you like royalty there. If the wedding coordinators are any proof of that, then this place is going to be amazing. They have gone over the top to help me with the wedding. I will let you know in 3 weeks how it is. From what I have heard, the resort is "anti-spring break"...very relaxing and serene...We will be there with 50 super wild friends (haha), but I will let you know how it is when we stay for a few days on our own. I know they are also running a special right now where you get $1500, basically in cash. You can use it at the spa, at the casino at Moon Palace, on wine upgrades, etc. We had booked too early for this promotion, but the resort and our TA was so nice...they surprised us with it in our travel documents. It is VERY expensive ($685 per night), but you can definitely find a deal. My guests are paying $230 per night, per person. I will report back to you in 3 weeks. wink.gif You also get access to all the other Palace resorts. I think they have more nightclubs and stuff like that. SO it will be cool to venture out to the other resorts at night....and drink for free!

I'm glad I could help! I think it will be very cool!

Only 3 weeks away...I'm so jealous...I have FOREVER! I love the planning...but all the planning makes me so excited to just DO :)
I was looking at the website and saw that promotion..that seems like a great deal..I think I read you can also use it for the trips/excusions (I could be wrong I was looking really fast)
What room are you in that is $685 per night...that is A LOT..I know it's our honeymoon...but I'm not sure that's possible...$230 is way more reasonable..but if the room for $230 is "less" than the room we have at Azul..I don't know that it makes sense to switch....We'll see what my TA says....

It will FLY by! I can't believe I have been engaged almost a year! Well, the trips/excursions are ALL included in my package, so I think I got the best of both worlds. Ok, to clarify...the base rate for the basic room right now is $685 per night. We researched and researched and negotiated and negotiated with my TA...and got it down to $460 per night ($230 per person). We also booked 25 rooms, so that helped I'm sure. There are only 2 types of rooms at Le Blanc...Royal Deluxe (ocean view and lagoon view) and Royal Governor's Suite. We upgraded to the Royal Governor's Suite because it has a bigger balcony and a bigger area (Ryan and his groomsmen will get ready in here). I think the look of the room is exactly the same though. EXCEPT, the balcony size...I think there is basically no balcony. That is why we upgraded...AmyF can give you all the details though. She and KatKen. I am just going off pure speculation. I am not sure if the rooms are as nice as AS or not, but I have heard the food and drinks are amazing. I think it is true gourmet food. Once again though...pure speculation! Even though trip advisor sucks, they have some great pictures of Le Blanc from guests. I think there are like 1500 or something. Another cool resort I loved was the Banyon tree Mayakoba. It is so fabulous, but I do not think it is all inclusive.

I thought you meant $685 PER PERSON PER NIGHT....I was thinking there is NO way that could happen....$685 for 2 people per night is not cheap...but a lot more doable :)
Right now FI is all good to stay at AS the full 2 weeks...if that's the case...I'll be fine! If I get enough great reviewes...maybe we'll switch...

Oh my goodness, so much to catch up on, and it's only been a day LOL!

I know you B2B's don't want to stray from wedding talk but if you don't mind indulging me, what do you all do for work?

I work as an air traffic controller in Toronto. Been there for 11 years and love the job. The only downside is the shift work, which can be tiring.

Is an email saying you're uninvited rude or do I just let it play out and deal with it when I have to? FI wants to post something on our website saying we have decided to go with just immediate family and bridal party..is that ok or super tacky? I think it's a combination of both :)

Like a few of the other ladies have said...an email is not an invitation. Your request for their addresses could be to send out wedding notifications, or perhaps an invite for a casual AHR after the fact. For that matter, maybe it's just a request for an address for a Christmas card! Don't feel pressured to invite, just for the sake of inviting! Most People are realistic and know that big weddings are expensive. Have the small, intimate wedding you want! :)

So as of today 39 rooms booked and TA is working on getting 2 more if possible. Hooray...now I'm off to party plan - my sister is due in 7 weeks and I am planning her shower with my mom (poor mom has lots of showers/parties to plan this year)

Great to hear you got the information you want! And we'll all keep our fingers crossed that things will be better than expected. For the few times I have been in places where constuction has been occuring, the hotels usually do a wonderful job of hiding it/ or at least keeping the disruption to a minimum and most guests will likely not even notice it.

Once you choose to do it, you'll be great! Good luck with your applications and I hope you get the school you want :)

Thanks Amy! She was and then she fell off. I honestly think she doesn't want to contribute to our wedding and rather than just communicate that, she has become dramatic and irrational. My parents are divorced and since I am a grown woman with a career, I didn't expect them to contribute to the costs of our wedding. My Dad volunteered to assist us with a small percentage and FI's Dad sent us a check for the rehearsal dinner. Once we talked openly in front of her about finances and their contributions, she became indifferent about the wedding. She has not returned my calls, emails, or texts in 3 weeks, so needless to say, I don't even know what the "real" reason is. It hurts not to have talked to her in 3 weeks and I don't even know what I did or said wrong, but it is what it is. I wish there was more to story and then I could justify her being mad about something, but even as I type this out it all sounds sooooo silly to me. I've prayed about it and I'm releasing it. :-) Thanks for your kind words though.

Feel free to use the 'postcard' idea! That's why I love this forum, everyone has these great ideas to share and learn from :)

Sorry to hear you are having a hard time with your Mom. Hopefully she'll just take some time to cool off and realize she is your Mom and should be there for you! Maybe if you had a "special" project for her to complete she might feel more involved...

Just hoping whatever the issue is calms down, so that you and your Mom can be happy again.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
