Since some people paid in full straight away, ended up only being about 1200 and we're getting that refunded this month now that I have 50 some odd guests booked! Whoo hoo!
First of all, Congrats on getting that many rooms booked! I hear that's a tough job in itself. ;-)

I just wanted to share with you that I too am using DW.com and was told by our TA that we needed not put down deposits for our guests unless they do not do so within 30 days of notification. We were told that each guest must place a deposit of $200 per room and that if they do not, we will be responsible for paying the deposits. It sounds like we may have received conflicting information, but I could be wrong. Anywho, I hope this adds to the "info pot" in some way or another. :-)

Now with that said it's not like I have to block rooms but to get the current promotion they are running you do. Any Advicehuh.gif?
Side Note: Current promotion if you block or outright book 20 or more rooms you get 20% off room rates and 20% off private events
I think that's pretty standard. My resort charged the same thing to block the rooms. But as people put money down, it will be credited towards your stay.

This is the eternal question when considering a group contract: Get one, lock in the rates and promotions but put down the deposit, OR don't get one, risk rates going up and/or the resort selling out (this last one might not be much of a concern with AS).

For us, we did the group contract and blocked 13 rooms. However, we already had our guest list at that point and told our guests that if they wanted to come under our contract and with our lower, negotiated prices, they had to put down the $150. We never even considered fronting the $$ ourselves. Our guest list was only immediate family, though, so that made it easier.

If you do put up the money, don't worry you'll get it back. When room balances come due, your TA will credit you back the money as your guests pay for their rooms. It can go to pay off your own room or they might reimburse you once it's all said and done. Each TA is a bit different.

Just this week I got the "get a free cocktail reception" when booking with a GI consultant added. This is all through Destinationweddings.com. But of course I also see what the other girls on here are getting and ask for it. (For example the free cocktail prty promo.) I am also doing the sky wedding and when i booked you had to do it with the silver or gold package but I saw that some of the other girls did it with the pearl package...and so I asked TA at DW.com and we made that work too. Thanks to this forum, already got a lot of upgrades and am saving a lot of money. (Still over budget but just by a couple of thousand and getting most things I want.)

Oh and my guests only needed to put down $100 per person to reserve the rooms. Again through DW.com. My TA can be sooooo slow, so much so that I've had to complain to her boss (didn't help) but I guess it was worth it because seems like I am getting a good deal.

Hope that helps you.

I believe the deposit for blocking a group of rooms is standard. I'm going through DW.com too so I had the same promotions as Amanda. I also blocked 25 rooms and there was no way I was coming up with $5000 to put on the rooms so I too told people that they needed to make their deposits in a month or risk the price going up. The price never went up. In fact, if you go on the hotel's website they're running a special and the rooms are like $200 cheaper than what my group rate was but anyway I think if you tell people they need to make their deposits in order to lock in their rates they will do it and you won't have to come out of your pocket with the money.

MY TA said it was $100 per person deposit needed. I had told the majority of my guests I was doing a DW so they were aware I would be booking once I signed the contract I told everyone to book bc the resort fills up fast (Im at AB and the rate isn't guaranteed). The rooms flew. We have 35 rooms booked already. It sounds scary at first but don't stress it or just block the rooms you know people will book and then add to the group contract.

Thanks for all the feedback ladies!!! You guys are wonderful. I cut and paste alot of what you guys said and sent it to my TA. I am sure we will get this worked out but I got a little stressed over it. Right now I have 25 verbal yes so I am sending out an email to say look people once we do this you need to BOOK ASAP! I think I was more concerned with coming up with $7500 on the front end. Again THANK YOU LADIES! Your the best!

Nope I don't think that it's conflicting. I had to put down the deposits after the 30 days. Enough of a deposit to equal 5k. After 30 days we were short about 1200 so I paid this difference. Now that we have so many guests booked, that's getting refunded. I did have to aks for the refund though. MY TA at DW.com did not refund as guests booked. Hope that helps

Thank you! Oh man, I don't know what made us both cry, I was crying at the bottom of the stairs, stopped briefly to start my walk, turned the corner, looked at him and he was crying and I burst back into tears, which continued for a little up there and then we both stopped and were fine for the rest of the ceremony until walking back down the aisle. It felt like so much pent up emotion and anxiety and something I'd been looking forward to for such a long time.

Thanks that TTD was so comfortable until I got into the ocean and it weighed like 200lbs after that I swear. The pearls are real and a gift from my Aunt who was in Shanghai earlier this year. My photographer couldn't believe I was gonna do a TTD with them in the ocean smile41.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
