Dreams vs Riu

Ok, So I have spent all morning reading reviews of Dreams and Riu and I am at a total loss. Apparently about 1/2 the people hated the locations and the food. I am a total foodie and our group is fairly upbeat and like to drink - alot. Who has eaten at both places and what were your takes? I keep reading comments that Dreams is quiet at 10pm - we are partiers. I love the gazebo at Dreams and overall it seems people enjoyed the food more there and apparently Riu has some sort of sewer smell? October 13 is my hopeful wedding date (13 is my lucky number). Any help would be fabulous.

dreams is definitely more quiet than riu and we had quite a few partiers in our group. my sister was voted biggest partier at UC santa barbara if that gives you an idea.

the resort gets quiet around 11pm but the bar is still open...also those that wanted to really party just jumped into a cab and went dancing...

riu def. has a bigger party scene...i guess you just have to figure what is more important for you and your group.

My FI and I stayed at the Riu in September last year. We thought the food was excellent for an AI. The breakfast buffet was especially tasty, but all meals in the buffet were great. They have HUGE selection so there's pretty much something for everyone.

We did not experience any issues with our room, although we did smell the sewer smell in the hall on our last day there. I think this is a problem that will not ever go away because of the location of the hotel. Our photographer was at the Riu with us one night and he lives in Cabo, he agreed that that is the Riu's biggest problem. However,we were there 4 nights and only noticed one day. You do kinda get used to it after a while as well.

Remember when reading reviews on tripadvisor, etc that many people only post a review when they are unhappy, so you don't hear about the 99 other people who were satisfied, only the 1 unhappy one.

Here's a pic of one of the watermelon carvings at dinner at the Riu. They always had some really decorated and well presented food!

The view from our room- the grounds are spectacular:

Yes, I am struggling with Dreams versus Riu too and would love more details. I am with you on food and drinks are important and I'm sure my wedding will go past 11. I kinda thought we would hop in a cab and go out but older people might like it to go on until at least midnight. Can the weddings go later at Riu?

Any more Dreams v. Riu replies would be great.

Thanks,

Lee

I am pretty sure its the same at Riu after 11 the party stops. A girl I knew had a beach reception and she gave the wait staff a good tip and they let it go on until 12pm. After that they took their party to the piano bar

I chose the Riu because I've heard so many good things about it from friends. Also my fiance really liked the pictures from magazines and websites. I'm not muvh of a decision maker so we didn't do much research, we chose the Riu right away.

Whichever resort you choose, I'm sure you will love it and have no regrets!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
