Barceló Maya Colonial Beach

asara...that sounds reasonable to me as our guests are paying approx. $1766.00 and that's for this February. It will also be Canadian Reading week so it's expected to be a bit high as well.

Asara, your quote does sound reasonable. To give you an idea I got a quote of $1925 from Calgary for Nov 09 (shoulder season).

Our initial quote for BM was the lowest out of the 3 resorts that we looked into. But after my TA negiotiated, the price for the other resorts went down but BM's price stayed the same. So, since it's now the most expensive for our guest, we've decided against BM.

That's a very reasonable price. Our guests from Saskatchewan are paying around $1900. It's cheaper at other departure areas though. For us, we are paying over $3000 each because we are going for two weeks.

Personally, I wouldn't hire an outside WC. My BM WC is Claudia and she replies back within days and is very good with her answers. I have talked to a lot of brides who have gotten married at the BM and they found that it only took about 20 minutes, once down there, to determine all the smaller things.

With the DJ question, I too have heard that their DJ's aren't the greatest. What we are going to do is hook up a Ipod or CD with some Diana Krall, jazzy type dinner music. Then we have speeches. After the cutting of the cake, we are going to have our first dance, party it up at the Disco. We decided to get the Mariachi Band as well to play when we are first waiting for our meal.

I love this forum! Gives me so much information, thanks to everybody! I am getting a little confused. So the dj's are not so great, thats good to know, and people have mentioned that after eating there is not much time to dance, does the reception/dinner location have a time restriction? So if I want to have my dinner at one of the grills, will we have time to eat and dance for a while? I guess I was imagining the ceremony, cocktail (has anyone done a cocktail before?), dinner, and then dancing! I know all my guests LOVE to dance so I was hoping that we would have a good 2-3 hrs to dance.

Oh, one more question...for those brides who had 'welcome cocktails' or 'welcome dinners', was this something that you arranged prior to getting to Barcelo? I wanted to print out an 'itenerary'type thing for guest so that we all could meet, but I wasnt sure if I would know all the details before getting to Barcelo, anybody know?

Hey guys! Thank you for all your information!! Wow i have my work cut out for me!! LOL Trish- I was totally looking at Philly_brides pictures and where she had her reception. that is to a T of what I was looking for. The pool would be a great topper. I just have to find out the location of it so I can tell the WC.

Cheers Jamie

WELCOME DRINKS: We had welcome drinks the night before are wedding this is where we handed out welcome/gift bags that we did not have delivered. Our WC had us pay the bellboys $2 (bring EXTRA $1, we never seemed to have enough) to deliver them BUT they do not have a key so if they were not in the room the bag could not be delivered SO that is why we handed most out at the welcome drink. There are TWO bars in the front of the resort that work well for the welcome drink one is an open air place it has a few TVS with lots of chairs and little tables and the other one is closed in with AC (which was a bit cold at times) you do not need reservations at these two places and I am sure you could find out the names I am sure I have them at home since I still have the map.

WELCOME DINNERS: We were going to have one BUT then we changed our mind because are guests wanted to take advantage of the tickets to check out the different restaurants. The other thing was that you cannot make a reservation for a large group the restaurants so your only choice is the buffet. The meeting for a drink worked best and it let are guest meet up but still do their own thing.

DANCING: We had are dinner in one of the grills on the ocean it was 5 courses and by the time we ate had speeches and stuff there was not time for dancing. YOU can ask for a time extension which I am sure you have to pay for. WE just went to the CLUB and danced there (With lots of fog, they love the fog machine! :)

  • 3 weeks later...

Hi ladies!

My FI have decided on the Barcelo Maya Colonial for July 2010 :) Now I'm confused about which packages to pick!?

Smartinez: I read that you chose the Sea Breeze Package? From what I've read the Sea Breeze doesn't allow you to have your reception outside, only the Under the Stars does... I want to be outside or at the grill like you did, Under the stars is $66 per person above 10 ppl and Sea Breeze is $20 per person above 20ppl... I think the Sea Breeze is a more affordable option, I just don't think I'd want to be in a banquet room... Please help! :)

Do you have any photos of your wedding yet? I'd LOVE to see them :)

Thanks so much!

Barbara

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
