agreed to hike the appalacian trail for 4 days in October.

I love hiking, but I only camp at places with showers & running water. I'm a clean freak. I can't go to bed dirty.

Also, I camp where we can pull up our truck & have all the food & water we want. This will be roughing it with only what we can carry.

We will hike 9 hours a day!

I know it would mean a lot to Mike so I think I just need to toughen up. He has been wanting to do this hike since we moved to north carolina. The hike is planned for his birthday & we'll be staying in the cabin where we stayed when we got engaged.

The hike will start & end at the spot where we got engaged.

I know I just need to suck it up & rough it. maybe we can find campsites along the way with showers :)

Morgan - my FI has a long history with that trail - he loves it as well! his grandfather lives 3 blocks from one of the mountain points to hike in in PA - very cool!

i hear you - i wouldn't be doing that mission myself but you obviously have to take a lot of pics for us!!

Wow! It'll really be hard, but he'll be there with you to help you! Worst comes to worst, pile all your crap on him and use him as a packhorse

I did a 3 day hike in Australia back in '99 and it broke me, but honestly, it's one of the best things I've ever done. You'll be so happy for the experience. Go kick some Appalachian ass!

Hahaha!! I love the title of this thread... and then opening it and to see what it was you agreed to.

I hiked some of the trail in my early 20's. The PA area. I love hiking and outdoorsy things, so I was totally into it. Although I'm essentially a tomboy, I can be a little bit of a girly girl when it comes to cleanliness. You know how some people need morning coffee to avoid being a raging bitch the whole day? Well I need my morning shower. So that was definitely a challenge, but it is soooo worth it!
