Alli - anyone try it?

Well, today is my first day using Alli. I only had one pill so far. I drank my meal supplement shake (GNC - GNC Lean Shake - Vanilla 1.7 lbs.) for breakfast. I make the shake with Silk's Vanilla Soy Milk and a banana. I also had daily round of vitamins (i.e., papaya enzyme, pineapple enzyme, b12, & protonix).

 

Everything is okay for now. TMI, I've been going more than usual today. I usually go twice a day, but now I am going three times (so far).

JB i hope you are only taking your vitamins at night time like the packaging for alli says - taking them in the morning renders them partially ineffective because they get passed through the stomach once you take your first pill of the day. thats why you are supposed to take them at night, so you have no alli fresh in your system for at least 8 hours.

Okay, I have two multivitamins that I take each day. The other stuff I listed are purely for digestion; except for the b12. I am going to take the b12 and the multivitamins in the evening as suggested by you and the packaging. I wonder, I also take probiotic too (for digestion). Should I take that prior to going to sleep?

Well, I just had my second dose of the Alli. I ate lunch. My stomach started to hurt. So, I went to the bathroom again (for the billionth time). Then, I became very nausea. I threw up everything; my lunch and part of my breakfast. I feel much better. My stomach felt uneasy all day.

I hope this is a one time occasion. I can't puke at work everyday.

So I went grocery shopping today. I am still having a hard time getting lower calories, with higher fat. I need to go browse online for more ideas. But what do you girls eat for breakfast? That is my hardest meal to hit the fat intake.
Tara, I have a really hard time with breakfast too, I think the key is to buy more low fat stuff, rather than non fat. Maura gave some great suggestions too, I know I'm going to try them when I go shopping again.

One thing that really adds up the fat is peanut butter. The last few days I've been having a protein shake with 2 pieces of toast, but I just use 1 tablespoon of PB, its about 8 grams of fat (depending on the brand you get) and 1 tablespoon was just enough to cover each piece with a thin layer.

That's strange that you threw up, I don't think it was from the alli, at least I've never heard of anyone getting sick from alli, but I could be wrong.

I'm still on the fence ... only because of my job (in the car - sales - from account to account all day, and drinking wine at some accounts). So, I'm staying up on this thread until I get the nerve. I'm mainly afraid of having to get to a bathroom too quickly and not making it in time. lol

Tami, unless you eat too much fat, it's really not bad. I think I definitely go more often, but its more like a strong urge to go, not like, OMG I'm going to shit myself shitfan.gif

It's really not bad, I was really scared, so I started in when I knew I'd be home for a couple of days, that would be my suggestion, try it on the weekend.

I've completed my 3rd full day on Alli. I have to say, the poop thing is totally psychological for me! Day number one I was fine all day long, no worries, no strong urges, but the second I left the house I was like "ahh, i gotta go" but really, it was all in my head. kinda funny. FI was laughing so hard. He got a kick out of the fact that i was so OCD about poop, that i actually made myself think i had to. He told me i need a hobby!

 

Since then, I haven't had anything strange. TMI, i go more often now, but nothing crazy and it's not like i'm screaming running for the bathroom at all.

 

So, i am totally loving this diet. Today I had a bagle with regular cream cheese for breakfast (total 9 grams of fat, 300ish calories, i can't remember exactly right now). As soon as i finished my bagle a coworker came in with mexican breakfast burritos. Old Tara would have said "what the hell, i might as well have one since she went to the trouble to make it" new Tara says "how will I ever know how many calories and fat is in that?! I didn't make it. I can't put it on my food journal, I can't eat it! Plus I just ate and am not hungry. Good job self!"

 

I was a total skeptic at first... if you read the beginig of this thread you will see that, so thanks Maura for being a guine pig and testing it out!

Okay, so I tried it again today. I didn't take any of my enzymes and prescription with it in the morning. I ate a fruit & nut salad from mickeyds this morning for breakfast. It was 8 grams of fat. LOL, the moment I got to work, I ran to the bathroom. After that episode, I've been fine so far. I ate a greek salad with a sprinkle of feta, two tablespoons of low fat greek dressing, and some salt and pepper for additional taste. I had my second pill after lunch. My stomach is rumbling. I am super gassy, but okay. I am not feeling nausea today. My constant battle with the toilet is over. I think the Alli was purging my system of everything. I also believe it was the enzymes and prescription that interacted with each other negatively i.e., puking. Enzymes and prescription were for digestion. I am going to stop taking them for now. Or, I will take them before I go to bed. I don't want the same reaction again.

 

LOL, I am going to agree with everyone about limiting my greasy food intake. I had a smoothie last night for dinner. I made my husband get one too. We woke up this morning. He kept complaining about being hungry. I reminded that we had smoothies for dinner. So, he was determined to stop at MickeyDs for breakast. He has a thing for their McSkillet Burritos. He ordered his breakfast. Then, he looked at me and asked me what I wanted. I told him that I wanted a Fruit and Nut salad for breakfast. He said that he was impressed that I didn't get a McSkillet too. I told him that thought of greasy behind was enough motivation not to eat the McSkillet. So, we sat in our car and ate our breakfast. He was damn-near making love to the hash brown and McSkillet. He was licking his fingers after each bite. As, I ate my nuts and apples. He turned to me and told me that it was sooooo good. Even though, I wanted to eat it with him. The thought of shitting on myself seemed to curve my cravings.

 

LOL, I did smell the McSkillet though. I won't get greasy behind from that, right?

just a reminder, you should take the pill after the first bite of your meal. taking it after youve finished eating wont produce the same effects.

So, I had an early meeting this morning, didn't have time to make breakfast, but knew I was going to stop to get a coffee, so I quickly looked up the nutrition facts for dunkin donuts, to see if there was anything at all I could eat.

I ended up getting a ham, egg, and cheese sandwich on an english muffin. It was 350 calories and 14 grams of fat, it was good and filling.

So tonight we decided to make tacos, our daughter was home (she's been at her grandmothers & aunt & uncles practically the whole summer) I started looking up fat grams on the stuff in the tacos and almost passed out!!

Now normally I would have just said screw it, I'm eating tacos tonight, but the thought of oil in the toilet was enough to sustain me. Instead I made a big salad and literally, sprinkled bits of the taco meat on my salad, tiny sprinkle of cheese, and a couple teaspoons of sour cream. I'm not exactly sure on the fat content, but I know I hardly had anything with fat, so I'll be fine. I'm very proud of myself for staying strong!

    • What is BMI? Body Mass Index ( BMI index ) is a person’s weight in kilograms divided by the square of height in meters. For children and teens, BMI is age- and sex-specific and is often referred to as BMI-for-age. In children, a high amount of body fat can lead to weight-related diseases and other health issues and being underweight can also put one at risk for health issues. A high BMI can be an indicator of high body fatness. BMI does not measure body fat directly, but research has shown that BMI is correlated with more direct measures of body fat, such as skinfold thickness measurements, bioelectrical impedance, densitometry (underwater weighing), dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and other methods1,2,3. BMI can be considered an alternative to direct measures of body fat. In general, BMI is an inexpensive and easy-to-perform method of screening for weight categories that may lead to health problems. How is BMI calculated for children and teens? Calculating BMI using the BMI Percentile Calculator involves the following steps: Measure height and weight. Refer to Measuring Children’s Height and Weight Accurately At Home for guidance. Use the Child and Teen BMI Calculator to calculate BMI. The BMI number is calculated using standard formulas. What is a BMI percentile and how is it interpreted? After BMI is calculated for children and teens, it is expressed as a percentile which can be obtained from either a graph or a percentile calculator (see links below). These percentiles express a child’s BMI relative to children in the U.S. who participated in national surveys that were conducted from 1963-65 to 1988-944. Because weight and height change during growth and development, as does their relation to body fatness, a child’s BMI must be interpreted relative to other children of the same sex and age. The BMI-for-age percentile growth charts are the most commonly used indicator to measure the size and growth patterns of children and teens in the United States. BMI-for-age weight status categories and the corresponding percentiles were based on expert committee recommendations and are shown in the following table.   Weight Status Category Percentile Range Underweight Less than the 5th percentile Normal or Healthy Weight 5th percentile to less than the 85th percentile Overweight 85th to less than the 95th percentile Obese Equal to or greater than the 95th percentile   How is BMI used with children and teens? For children and teens, BMI is not a diagnostic tool and is used to screen for potential weight and health-related issues. For example, a child may have a high BMI for their age and sex, but to determine if excess fat is a problem, a health care provider would need to perform further assessments. These assessments might include skinfold thickness measurements, evaluations of diet, physical activity, family history, and other appropriate health screenings. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends the use of BMI to screen for overweight and obesity in children beginning at 2 years old. For children under the age of 2 years old, consult the WHO standards. BMI online Is BMI interpreted the same way for children and teens as it is for adults? BMI is interpreted differently for children and teens even though it is calculated as weight ÷ height2. Because there are changes in weight and height with age, as well as their relation to body fatness, BMI levels among children and teens need to be expressed relative to other children of the same sex and age. These percentiles are calculated from the CDC growth charts, which were based on national survey data collected from 1963-65 to 1988-944. Obesity is defined as a BMI at or above the 95th percentile for children and teens of the same age and sex. For example, a 10-year-old boy of average height (56 inches) who weighs 102 pounds would have a BMI of 22.9 kg/m2. This would place the boy in the 95th percentile for BMI, and he would be considered to have obesity. This means that the child’s BMI is greater than the BMI of 95% of 10-year-old boys in the reference population. For adults, BMI is interpreted as weight status categories that are not dependent on sex or age. Normal or healthy weight weight status is based on BMI between the 5th and 85th percentile on the CDC growth chart. It is difficult to provide healthy weight ranges for children and teens because the interpretation of BMI depends on weight, height, age, and sex. What are the BMI trends for children and teens in the United States? The prevalence of children and teens who measure in the 95th percentile or greater on the CDC growth charts has greatly increased over the past 40 years. How can I tell if my child is overweight or obese? CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommend the use of BMI to screen for overweight and obesity in children and teens age 2 through 19 years. For children under the age of 2 years old, consult the WHO standards. Although BMI is used to screen for overweight and obesity in children and teens, BMI is not a diagnostic tool. To determine whether the child has excess fat, further assessment by a trained health professional would be needed. Can I determine if my child or teen is obese by using an adult BMI calculator? In general, it’s not possible to do this. The adult calculator provides only the BMI value (weight/height2) and not the BMI percentile that is needed to interpret BMI among children and teens. It is not appropriate to use the BMI categories for adults to interpret the BMI of children and teens. However, if a child or teen has a BMI of ≥ 30 kg/m2, the child is almost certainly obese. A BMI of 30 kg/m2 is approximately the 95th percentile among 17-year-old girls and 18-year-old boys. My two children have the same BMI values, but one is considered obese and the other is not. Why is that? The interpretation of BMI varies by age and sex. So if the children are not the same age and the same sex, the interpretation of BMI has different meanings. For children of different age and sex, the same BMI could represent different BMI percentiles and possibly different weight status categories. See the following graphic for an example for a 10-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy who both have a BMI-for-age of 23. (Note that two children of different ages are plotted on the same growth chart to illustrate a point. Normally the measurement for only one child is plotted on a growth chart.)

    • The Body Mass Index (BMI) Calculator can be used to calculate BMI value and corresponding weight status while taking age into consideration. Use the "Metric Units" tab for the International System of Units or the "Other Units" tab to convert units into either US or metric units. Note that the calculator also computes the Ponderal Index in addition to BMI, both of which are discussed below in detail. Reference BMI is a measurement of a person's leanness or corpulence based on their height and weight, and is intended to quantify tissue mass. Although BMI has limitations in that it is an estimate that cannot take body composition into account, it can be used as a general indicator of a healthy body weight based on a person's height. The main difference between the PI and BMI is the cubing rather than squaring of the height in the formula (provided below). While BMI can be a useful tool when considering large populations, it is not reliable for determining leanness or corpulence in individuals. Although the PI suffers from similar considerations, the PI is more reliable for use with very tall or short individuals, while BMI tends to record uncharacteristically high or low body fat levels for those on the extreme ends of the height and weight spectrum.     • After the wedding, the wedding dress purchased at a high price can be kept in the wardrobe, or it can be sold as a second-hand wedding dress for some cash.       1. Get your marriage license.
      Before you can change your name, you'll need the original (or certified) marriage license with the raised seal. Call the clerk's office where your license was filed to get copies if one wasn't automatically sent to you. 2. Change your Social Security card.
      Visit the Social Security Administration's website and fill out the application for a new Social Security card. You'll keep the same number—just your name will be different. Mail in your application to the local Social Security Administration office. You should get your new card within 10 business days. 3. Change your license at the DMV.
      Take a trip to the local Department of Motor Vehicles office to get a new license with your new last name.
