We made several trips to the Quetzal up until a few years ago. Our last trip we were scheduled to leave the day before Hurricane Emily was to hit. At that time the beach there was only half what it had been in years past. Now our TA doesnt send anyone there due to the beach condition. That is a real big deal because it was a super popular resort for her business. We still love the Quetzal but when we go next will probably stay at the Del Mar or find a new place to go until the beach rebuilds itself at the Quetzal. It is a shame because we LOVE it there.

My thoughts are, if you are a real beach fan like us then you might want to consider another location in that area. Just my $.02 and YMMV.

Wow, I just found pics of the beach. It doesnt even look the same. What a shame. Now I see why they are having concerns. That is simply amazing.

These are from 2007 and if you go through them there is some more recent photos. I am just stunned because this was such an amazing beach with palms and palapas.

I just looked on tripadvisor and they had plenty of pictures on the beach from a wedding there. Not sure how old these pictures are but the one person on tripadvisor had just gotten back from her wedding a few months ago. Also the person said that they were pumping sand there everyday

Have no fear!!!! (lol…hopefully)

My travel agent talked to the WC and asked about the beach renovation. She said of the 2 beaches on the property, the Tucan has been completely renovated and is great again, the second beach is still under construction but should be back to normal soon. She also sent along pictures of the beach taken at the end of may, so like 3 weeks ago.

I also have a slew of information about weddings at Iberostar Tucan that I will post later tonight when I get home. Iâ€m a little of a research mongol and Iâ€ve got hotel maps, wedding package pricing, rules and restrictions, etc.

That is good that they are actually adding sand to the beach. Until now they pretty much let the ocean replenish the sand but this time it is just to much damage. I see that they were building a retaining wall which tells me they are going to be content with the new beach level. Hopefully they willl get it back to a usable situation. I really like the Quetzal for a vacation spot and would miss not getting to go back. The best thing to hope for at this time is that they have a mild storm season this summer.

Thanks everyone! I actually contacted Mayra the WC at the resort and she also sent me some pictures she had taken about three weeks ago! Things look good!! =) my worries are gone! We went to the resort last year and loved it( i liked the quetzal side the best! but both are wonderful!!!) I have not booked my reception restaurant yet. And yes I am having a cocktail party after the dinner (we are bringing our ipod and having them hook it up to their system to dance) =) On another note we are getting legally married before we leave and I email the minister for the blessing ceremony he seems wonderful and replied VERY quickly !!! =) hope this helps!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
