As far as planning go.....we dont have much other then the date booked. So far we have about 35 confirmed guests. Our wedding planner's name is Connie...has anyone had any experience with her? We just put in the deposit for our wedding package today!  I have already started on the OOt bags (as doing it slowly/early feels easier on the wallet).  We would love for it to be on the beach (as we are both beach bums haha)

For anyone who has been to this resort...i have an odd question for all of you......Is it true that the rooms only have showers and not bathtubs? ( i may have read that somewhere)

Awesome! What day are you planning on getting married? We also haven't done much regarding the wedding besides picking the date and paying for the package.. We've finally decided that we are going to hire an outside DJ versus having to go through the hassle of getting a huge playlist together on ipods and then having to ask someone to take care of it. Thankfully, this website made our choice super easy! We are also beach bums and will for sure be getting married barefoot in the sand! Is there any other way?? haha. But I think we have decided the reception should be in the restaurant closest to the beach, we have been to Playacar last January and it was quite windy so we're just going to have it in the open air restaurant.

Regarding your question, I have stayed at a few Iberostars in the DR, but not this one specifically.. Our room has always had a tub/shower combo but that is a question you can easily get answered by Connie to put your mind at ease? I am working with the Quetzal WC, Antonieta... I think it may just be the two of them coordinating.

We are getting married on the 28th of january 2013. So....it looks like our wedding coordinator is also antonieta! i guess at first i had emailed asking questions and the persons name was connie but im thinking maybe that was just a resort rep. because as soon as i gave the wedding deposit i got an email with some information from our wedding coordinator, looks like we will be having the same one!

So far i have emailed her a few qustions last week havnt gotten a reply as of yet. We are unsure what to do yet music wise as we really just wanted a very simple and small wedding. maybe ceremony...cocktail and drinks and dinner. Then we were unsure what to do afterwards. The fi suggests doing the cocktails and drinks after dinner and then maybe getting everyone in swimwear and hanging out in the pool/pool bar (i plan on getting a bathign suit saying bride and his shorts groom :) )but...i am not to sure yet. We dont care to much to have a dancefloor or anything we thought if anythign maybe everyone go to the disco later on in the evening....however the wedding will be on a monday i wonder how it is in there. Too much to decide and we are both procrastinators and very simple people so it all seems like soooooo much!

Hi Trace,

Sorry I just saw your message!  I'm not on here that much.  Feel free to PM me anything you want.  I'll answer you as best I can.  Right now we have about 35 committed to going and some are still on the fence.  I actually thought we'd have less but so far everyone seems on board!  I'm not having a typical reception, just a dinner in one of the restaurants.  That's all we want--nothing too fancy.  As for the wedding coordinator, I deal with Antoineta...very nice, quick email responses...sometimes the language gets lost in translation so I try to be a simple as possible when I contact her.  Haven't had any issues but I haven't really had to contact her with anything important.  I have to submit some paperwork 2 months beforehand and other than that the planning is at a standstill (and I like it that way) since everything is really done when we get down there. :)

Can any past Tucan/Quetzal brides share their experiences with the music choices?  We're pretty much having live music for the ceremony portion only and are stuck deciding between the Mariachi and the Mexican Trio.  Didn't know if the Mariachi sound too cheesy but it is Mexico and figured it might be appropriate.  We don't have song preferences, we just want some live music and they can play whatever they choose.  Any advice?

The Mariachi's are always a lot of fun and can play anything, people tend to enjoy them quite a bit. We're not using live music for the ceremony but we get the choice as part of our package so we've decided to use them for our welcome party. I'm sure if you wanted something a bit more subdued they'd know plenty of beautiful, traditional Mexican music to play?

Hi Trace, thanks for the info.  I've never heard live Mariachi play before (other than on TV which is a little cheesy sometimes) and decided I'd rather have live music than risk something going wrong with my iPod music or CD.  Picking music is just not something I care to do, haha.  I plan to email the wedding coordinator since I have a few more questions anyway.

Wow I can't believe I haven't been on this forum since January! So my wedding is coming up in less than 3 months - 11/10/12 at Iberostart Quetzal. All but 10 of our 55 guests have made their final payments! We are working with WC Antonieta - who we initially worked with last year when we first booked, then she left for a few months, and now is back? We were initially going to have our rehearsal dinner at  restaurant in downtown Playa called Fusion (great food, but would not recommend a party - they kept changing the prices!) Now we are having a private rehearsal dinner at the tropical restaurant the night before and then the wedding reception dinner at the Mexican restaurant (private as well), and then we also rented out the discotech to do first dances and whatnot... We ended up going with the Adventure Photo people for photography (the price went up to $500 for outside vendors!). I've seen some pics from them and I think they are really good!

Based on what Antonieta has told me we will choose our cake, flowers, and go over other details the first day we get there. I'm still not sure how the food selection is going to go because I don't know if we need to get that information from the guests before we get there?

Whew! I guess I had a lot to catch you all up on! Oh last thing is OOT bags, is anyone doing them and what all are you putting in them? So far, we have custom grocery totes made, that have a palm tree, playa del carmen and the wedding date, custom 32 oz cups, a CD of music, welcome note, sunscreen and chapstick, and maybe some mexican candy? Any thoughts or advice is appreciated!

hey AC!

Oh my goodness, you must be getting SO excited! Sounds like you pretty much have everything set to go for November! Can't wait to hear all about it. We also ended up going with Adventure Photo after seeing their work, it looked pretty good! That $500 outside vendor fee was way too steep. We ended up booking a DJ for the reception, I didn't realize the disco was for rent. Oh well!

Can I ask, is the Mexican restaurant the one closest to the beach? I want to have our reception their but want the Mexican menu so wondering if you know that? If not I can just ask Antonieta.

Your bags sounds really good! We have decided not to do them, too much weight to take on the plane and pay for all those extra fees. We are staying an extra week after everyone leaves so we'll need all the suitcase room we can get. But I have ordered painted, personalized Maraca's for everyone - they'll have to shake them at dinner to have us kiss. It's either going to be super fun or else we're going to throw them all into the ocean before the night is done...hahah.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
