I was planning on doing the DIY boarding pass invites and was either going to have it done at Staples/Kinko's or buy my own printer. I was under the impression that if I wanted to do it at home, a laser printer would be better.

However, after talking to a sales guy at Staples, he said the colors would be better with inkjet.

We might buy a printer and do some test pages and do some test pages at Staples, but what is everyone doing at home for printing?

Thanks!

I printed my STDs and invitations on my home printer which is an inkjet. I thought they came out fine. I actually think it ends up being cheaper to have Kinko's print them, but I never ended up going there for a quote. SOmething I discovered when printing my RSVP cards is that you have to wait for the ink to dry before touching them. I smeared the ink on one page. I printed those on a shimmer cardstock so I'm not sure if that made the ink dry slower than the regular cardstock, but I only had that happen with that paper.

For the cost of the printer & ink, you will be better off taking it to some place to have it printed. Actually if you call around to printing companies (not a staples type place) you might be able to get a cheaper price because of how many pages you are printing. wink.gif

I'm not sure which I'm going to do. I have three printers (photo/laser, inkjet and a all-in-one inkjet). I plan on testing pages on each printer to see which one's work best. But, also remember that if you plan on doing everything yourself to check the prices with printing companies. Because if you have to go out and buy a printer and then the cartrides it may be the same price. Especially if your projects are going to be using a great deal of colors!

I printed ours (at work) on the laser printer (shhhh, don't tell my boss). They turned out great. I was afraid of the inkjet smearing, so that's why I did it the way I did. Tip for you if you use a laser....print the side with the "barcodes" first.....embarrest.gif I learned that the hard way.

I have an inkjet printer too. I think mine came out just fine. I did them for my bridal shower, I didn't think it would be worth the price of going to Staples since there wasn't that much color to them.

But for my save the dates I did make my own copy and took it to Staples for copies. But that was a full color page flyer I made up. I love Staples, the staff is always super nice and helpful. Plus I have their Rewards card that saves me a lot!

If your just going to buy a laser printer for a proof copy or for this project, it is not worth money, if you were going to use all the time sure, Laser printers have come down in price but for a one time at home use I don't think it is necessary. Save your money for something else for the wedding =)! With all the hassle of printing and getting it right let Kinkos deal with it!

Not to mention laser jet ink cartridges run about $80 a piece and you have 4 CMYK.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
