It's NOT OK to RSVP via facebook!!!!!!!!!

I am extremely pissed about something this week that I just have to get off my chest before I explode. rant.gif

My shower was last weekend, and several (yes, several as in more than 3) people did not even have the decency to RSVP to the hostess. After the fact, I received messages from 2 of the people on FACEBOOK to let me know they basically got caught up in their own lives and that's why they didn't a) RSVP or B) show up. I am sorry, but I think this is so so SO totally inappropriate and INCREDIBLY rude and poor mannered to not respond to an invitation and then send your regrets that you were an asshole via facebook or another like method.

I also received one email from someone who didn't show up who also failed to RSVP for the shower. Her excuse? She was out running errands and was nowhere near the shower location when it began, so she just didn't show up.

WHAT?! You knew you had to be somewhere on a certain day at a certain time... why did you not plan for that? Even if you don't have enough decency to go for the bride, please have the decency to at least RSVP to the hostess, who usually goes through a lot of trouble (and $!) to put a shower together, making sure there are enough refreshments, etc etc. All it takes is a 2 second phone call!

My rant for the day is that I am extremely irritated at how easy the internet has made it for people to facelessly try to excuse their unacceptable behavior. More and more often recently, I read posts here on the forum about how so-and-so's mom/sister/cousin/friend/MOH/whoever wrote them some nasty email expecting something. In most cases, I would bet my entire year's salary that these people would NEVER have the gall to say these things to our faces, yet somehow when they send it via email, they think it is ok.

I am so so fed up with people thinking that it's ok to act this way! IT ISN'T!

Another guest we invited to the wedding, who already booked her plane ticket and hotel stay also informed me VIA FACEBOOK this week that she is no longer able to attend. The reason she has to back out is totally legitimate and I am not disputing that, in fact, if I were her, I would make the same decision. But after you RSVP to a wedding that you're coming, you MUST pick up a TELEPHONE and CALL the bride & groom to let them know your plans have changed if you can no longer attend. FACEBOOK IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE METHOD! I feel like writing a generalized note on facebook to address proper manners, but then I would be the one who looks crazy even though I am not the one who has bad manners.

I just want to extend a BIG wtf.gif to the universe today. I am so tired of people having bad manners!

OMG Maura. I just had an RSVP via Myspace today. It didn't really rile me up though because there is still a while before my wedding and I didn't send RSVP cards. I agree it is extemely rude. Espeacially AFTER the fact!!

I think some people rely too heavily on those sites for communication. That is ridiculous.

I mean, an email would have been a THOUSAND times better compared to Facebook. I'm sorry.

I think the guests and their RSVP etiquette are the most annoying things about weddings.

I would prefer an email to a phonecall though. I don't check my voicemail as much as my email.
Me either Morgan. I hate phones! Maybe it's cause I listen to people bitch at me all day long on one?! I never answer my phone and it's the big joke with people. They call Steve's phone asking to talk to me. LOL

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
