I need your help finding a great dress for my body type

Recommended Posts

I love that dress. It's so pretty.

So.. I was planning on going dress shopping Sunday for the 1st time on Sunday and chickened out cause I just wasn't feeling it (pretty and fit) Boo. So I am over it. It was just one of those days I think and I am going to venture out this weekend again.

You have given me hope that it will not be a horrifying experience Shay. I wear a size 10/12 street clothes as well.

Congrats on your loss and on your begining search for the dress!

we all hate our arms ... heck, just last week my fiance's 7 yr old godson grabbed my arm, stopped, looked at me and said, "hmmm ... flappy!" i wanted to *die*, but i couldn't exactly argue with the kid ... they are indeed flappy!

sometimes no amount of toning will fix the skin problem after a big weight loss. however, i'm not sure about lace but sometimes sheer white sleeves will actually *emphasize* lumps and bumps or make arms look *bigger* (you know how black is slimming, but white not so much?)! you'll have to try stuff on to know for sure ... lace might work like camo LOL!

bottom line, if you try on a dress and actually feel beautiful in it, then that's THE ONE, whether it has sleeves or not. it will take work but you will find it!

congrats on the weight loss!

smile29.gifI FOUND THE DRESS!!!!smile159.gif

I can't believe it. What a day. I'm exhausted...and I don't have pics (not until tomorrow), but I found it. And I totally had that OMG moment.

I tried on the Casablanca dress, and ... it just wasn't right for me, although it is a gorgeous dress...it just isn't built for girls with tits! cheesy.gif

The dress I have fallen completely and madly in love with...well...you'll see it tomorrow!

Thank you all for your support...this has really been amazing! I never knew you could get so emotional about pieces of fabric...but wowzers!

Until tomorrow...

When my sister was looking for dresses, she thought the exact same way as you. She hated her arms and thought she HAD to have sleeves, or at least cap sleeves. Then my mom pulled a strapless dress for her just to try, and she lit up in it! So I wouldn't rule anything out. Maybe just try on a bunch of different styles regardless of what you heard is the best because you never know! I personally always wanted a v-neck dress, but ended up loving a strapless one. You'll know which is "the one" when you put it on. Don't worry, I'm sure you'll look amazing in whatever you pick :)

I have to agree with this ... I don't want strapless. I want an off-the-shoulder/portrait neckline to to widen my shoulders (i have none!) and hopefully balance my hips (majorly pear shaped here!). But who knows? I could end up falling in love with a particular strapless dress and just adding straps to it (or not!). Definitely try on all different styles, as you may be surprised at what you like or look radiant in!

I want to see the dress!!! It's tomorrow, lol!

I HATE my arms, they're so flabby and gross, I'm always so self concious, but I ended up with a strapless dress and the day of my wedding, I wasn't thinking about my fat arms at all.

You'll look beautiful in your dress and no one will think otherwise.

Now, where is that dress....

Oh man...you guys are going to kick my ass!! LOL

My mom and dad came to Montreal to help with the dress hunt (and they ended up buying it for me too - I'm spoiled)! but...my dad brought the wrong cable to download the pictures from ... so now I have to get to a WalMart of Shoppers Drug Mart of something to have them burn the pictures to CD for me, so then I can post them...

I went back to the Salon today to put it on so we could take pictures, now that it is bought and paid for...and I fell in love all over again. Granted I have big, nasty arms...this dress...I don't even think I thought about my arms the entire time. I LOVE this dress.

I also asked if they could tell me the designers name on it, and of course, they didn't know, only that they thought it was from a Private Label. Boo.

So...to play with your imaginations...I'll try to give you a visual...

It has a very Spanish feel to it. Ivory with Gold embroidery and lace detailing with lots of beading, with little whitish flowers...It has a sweetheart neckline and a fitted bodice; strapless. The skirt begins just at the mid hip and has 5 tiers. The first two tiers are sort of at an angle, the bottom three all cut straight across. It has a small train, with pick up to the side (wrist thingy). And...it is incredibly light!

I have been looking online most of last night and tonight trying to find a designer or similar dress and can't find anything close to it. I'll keep looking until I can actually show you guys!

It was hilarious though...my mom...a true post-menopause lady is always HOT! When I tried all the dresses on, I asked "is there one you've already seen, that you'd like me to try again"? Her and my dad both wanted to see this dress once more. When I came out, my dad was whispering to my mom "That's the one, that's the one"! Then my mom, just became all flustered...and covered in goosebumps!!! She just couldn't control it...goosepimples all over her! I've never seen her like that...and I was just admiring myself the whole time! LOL...

Truly a wonderful experience, and I feel stunning in the dress. I don't think I ever imagined it could have been THIS great!

cheesy.gif ahh....I'm so excited!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
