I need your help finding a great dress for my body type

Recommended Posts

I hate my arms too. Lately I have noticed how fat they are and how much better I look in long sleeves. I have been considering getting a reception dress with sleeves so at least I wont look so fat in some of my pictures. My wedding dress is halter style. (no way do I need to be wearing a strapless dress) I understand how you feel. I have your same physical dimensions!!!

I totally LOVE the dress with the sleeves. A seamstress could do that for you no problem. If you think long sleeves will be too hot go for cap sleeves.

I love the dress you picked out, with and without the sleeves. Have you had the chance to actually try anything on yet? Believe it or not, once you start trying things on, you will like things on you that you never would have thought would look good on you. But you have to try all diff styles. They have some sharp lil jacket's on dresses I've looked at, or cap sleeves?? I will take a look and post back.

I agree with CURRIER too, the casablanco dress. That might be flattering too!

PS- Congrats on losing 60lbs. smile03.gif

Thank you everyone! Really. I truly appreciate everyone supportive comments...and I am going to try to get into a good routine and focus on trying to shape up these arms of mine. I DO have a lot of time to try...even just a little more success and I would be happy...they are just SO hard to tighten...

Loose skin is a bitch!

I love that Casablanca dress (actually the dress I posted is a Casablanca also), and I have spoken with a friend of the family who works with Casablanca Canada, and they can add those sleeves in the matching lace from the dress, no problem. I know it is going to be HOT in Mexico while we are there...but having the sleeves light and lacy...they may be airy enough to not start a small fire in my dress! I really do have to just go try some dresses on though...

My very first dress appointment is July 7th. The dress I posted...I get to try that baby on July 10th! Part of me is so excited this is all even happening to me...but that part of me that hates mirrors, yah...she's a little sick to her stomach!

I'm not sure if all salons allow pictures...but I will try to get some if possible and post back to show you all - what the big deal is!

I'm going to go scout out the Health forum now, for some good, effective arm/back/shoulder exercises! (I'll continue pilates for overall body shaping too!)

Thank you again everyone. It has meant a lot!

I know people hve piped in and said everything I wanted to say..lol Especially Rachel!!! I was gonna say tan tooo!! I know it is not a healthy solution but it will make you feel better- I swear. I am 2 inches shorter and outweight you by 20 pounds (get a mental pic..lol). I HATE my arms. Arms and secound chin. I was really really worried about both in my pictures but really there are only a couple where I even pick either of them out. Also I did buy a bunch of tank tops for the trip and I wear them now with confidance! I guess I got over it too. Find a dress that brings attention to your new boobs (I am jealous...lol) and you will not even notice your arms! Who looks at arms anyways?? You are gonna focus on your dress, make up and hair and not even look at your arms! I am serious-look at my signature pic. It is a close up of my arms (I know his hands are on them but you can still tell how wide they are) and I still love the picture! You will look and feel beautful. I am 100% sure of that!

Another thing to remember is that although it's really hot in Mexico, it is also really, really windy, especially if your wedding is on the beach. That's the reason my daughter didn't wear a veil and wore her hair up, and the tendrils still flew everywhere in the wind. Also, we had fans for the guests and they were just in the way; they certainly weren't needed! I think you'll be just fine with the sleeves. Also, when you think about it, alot of the grooms wear jackets - your sleeves certainly won't be hotter than than!

hissyfit.gif Waaaahh! I want to lose 60 lbs and get a boob job!

Girl - 1st of all be proud of you! That is a MAJOR accomplishment!

BTW Rachel - I am adopting you as my new little sis! You have a way with words and I just love you!

I agree with the other girls on the thread and say tan those arms. I probably outweigh most of you if not ALL of you on this thread - however as my doctor has told me, I "Carry it very well". One of my many problem areas is my arms. I too have flabby arms. I have been doing a pitiful job of trying to tone them, but did notice that I was more confident after doing some yard work and they got really tan - they dont' look half as bad as I thought. Even FI said -"Geez honey, all you have to do is tan the inside chub and you'll look great". I am laughing as I say this becaust it is true and so funny LOL! You gotta love that guy!

I love your dress, but wonder if they could do a 3/4 sleeve? The sleeves look kind of long and it seems like it would pull you down - and it looks very hot. I think the 3/4 would be a good substitute for a whole sleeve.

Good luck and be proud of yourself. I'm sure if you showed up in a gunny sack your FI would still love you and you would still look fabulous!

Seriously...the boob job, was the second best decision I have ever made. I started off with HEAVY 38 DDDs and went down to completely perky 36C s. I see pics of how I used to look, with the weight, the boobs...whathaveyou...and my god...my poor back! I'm loving the new chest that is for sure!

No kidding. Rachel just ... relates...and you can tell. As she writes, and I read...its like reading my own thoughts! Plus, she's got a sense of humor, which I totally appreciate!

The 3/4 sleeve is exactly what I had in mind. Just enough coverage to feel cool and comfortable. There may in fact be another dress out there that I will fall in love with...but so far (and I have exhausted Google)...this dress is the one I'm most fond of. I get goosebumps just seeing it online...I can only imagine what it will be like in person! GAH!

I have a wonderful terrasse on the roof of my loft, so I think with all this lovely weather...if I get out of work at a reasonable (before sunset) hour today, I'll take in some rays...AND...do some exercises!

You girls are just so great. It's amazing jumping into an online COMMUNITY like this...and really feeling...like I have friends out there...that I didn't even know about yet! cheesy.gif SO cool.

OMG! I swear we are the same person! I about about 175-180 and lost about 75 lbs for the wedding and I hate my arms too! I so understand what your saying. But honestly.... tan tan tan.. it makes you feel better and if i learned one thing on this forum is stand with your arms bent! the pics look great! I bet you will look great int he strapless but the sleeves are super cute too! Just think of what you will feel confortable with.. what about a little cap sleeve or llke the off the sholder sleeve. If you are getting married when it is hot you may not want a shall. I promise you will look great! I hate wear tanks and stuff but i am forcing myself to do it now so that in 20 days i will feel a little better.. and just remember if anyone looks good on the wedding day it is the BRIDE!!!rockon.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
