Well thank you. It was hard...but soooo worth it. The only negative (if I can really call it that) aspect from the whole thing...was that initially, I lost so quickly my upper arms (in particular) have a lot of excess skin...and even though I do pilates and light lifting...I've never had luck tightening that skin up. There is always cosmetic surgery...but man...I had a breast reduction after the initial loss, and I've seen pictures of arm lift surgeries...not something I'm eager to experience again. Though, I do love my boobs now! haha.

I hid behind people a lot in pictures. I know the hands on the hips trick, but to me it's a little diva looking to be doing that in all wedding photos. LOL I didn't even attempt it.

I doubt anyone really noticed my arms though. When you feel great, you look great. I 100% believe that. Everyone commented on the glow. It's a great way to hide those insecurities rather than covering up. :)

I didn't realize there wasn't a David's Bridal in Ca. Sorry! I bought my dress in a normal boutique though so no worries. Just realize that they cater to twigs. SO many brides on here comment on the sizing of dresses, etc. You are NOT alone. So go in with that knowledge and forget the rest! Just have some fun.

I need help...finding a great shaped dress for this body of mine!

I have a really poor self image...and am dreading looking for and trying on a bunch of dresses I just fear will never look good on me. I know some of you will wonder how I even came to be engaged...with such a poor outlook of myself...and I can't say for sure, except my FI is...incredible.

ANYWHO...on to the dress.

I am about 5'5", 180lbs (lost about 60lbs within the last year or so), and HATE my arms!

I've read that A-Lines or Empire waisted dresses might work well on me...and I am wondering if you all can give me your opinion of the following dress. Because of my arm issues, I have photoshopped the pic to have 3/4 length sleeves...

If you think the sleeves look...awful...or the dress a bit much for my description...maybe you could offer me a few suggestions of things to look for to make the whole dress hunt...more enjoyable?

Thank you everyone for taking the time!
First of all, CONGRATULATIONS on your engagement AND on losing 60 lbs! As far as your dress goes here are my words of advice: It's important to feel confident in your dress :) Despite which sleeve you go with, the fact of the matter is; you still have arms and they will be visible considering it's a wedding dress you'll be wearing :) I would pick a dress that makes you feel good, and not think so much about picking a dress that will "hide" something. We ALL have our "problem areas" and if yours is your arms then make it a point to work on them. You have 10 months girl, you can totally do it! I found that instead of saying "I'm going to lose 10 lbs, or 20 lbs, or be a size 5 My goal is to feel confident!!!!!!!!!!!! Ahhh what a beautiful thing!!!! I know you will look gorgeous no matter what dress you pick :)

You have come to the right place for encouragement and honest answers. First, I love the dress you picked out. You will look gorgeous in it - really. Let me say also, that if your FI is as incredible as you say, he obviously saw something wonderful, special, and beautiful in YOU.

Secondly, my daughter had a white pashmina (shawl) that she wore over her wedding dress when it got cooler in the evening in Mexico and also at her AHR in the air-conditioning. It looked really great with the dress, so if the sleeves don't work out, at least you have another option. Good luck with the shopping.

Also, have you seen this thread? I think it's great inspiration that with a little bit of toning and a tan you can feel 10x better. She looks great and she seemed to have the same feelings as you.
That is brilliant...I look a lot like her...and wow...we have the exact same concerns! Thanks chicky...this helped a lot!

This is the link to the dress I bought. CasaBlancaBridal.com: Best Seller/1831 When I first tried it on I was 175 lbs and 5'5". I have lost 18lbs since the dress was ordered but this dress is very slimming. I am not that crazy about my arms either but with the sweetheart neckline and roughing at the waist, it accented my curves. I have also had a breast reduction and this definitely showed the best part of my body. You should try it on.

Wow 60lbs! Thats awesome! Congrats, I really like the dress with the sleeves, I think its very romantic but do consider if you'll be hot or not. I have no worries that your arms will look fab in a year if you choose to forgo sleeves.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
