Could work stop my DW from happening?

I do not have much time on the books because of my back surgeries, doctors appointments, smaller procedures, etc. Because I am in a light duty spot (doing office work on an administrative line) I am now required to take Village holidays (memorial day, fourth of July, etc). These were days I use to work and bank the holiday for. Just found out now we also have July 3rd off because of parking issues with our festival and stuff going on. Good news for most but not me. As my time has been going away I settled on the fact that for our wedding I would have to take some days off without pay, sucks but crap happens. Well I just found out that you cant just do that, you have to get permission and no one has ever been given permission. The supervisor who's advice I seeked said she thought they would not grant it because it sets a precident (sp?) and they are big on precidents around here. Now what??!?!?!!?! I am freaking out!!!!!!! I mean we have to be in Mexico 4 days before we get married, so at very minimum I need like 4-5 days off and that is without having a honeymoon of any sort! I never thought work would ruin our wedding!!!! Sorry for the vent but I am shaking right now!!

you have to put a special request IN WRITING. make sure you have a paper trail - no more conversations.

this is your wedding, you are asking for days off without pay - that is not out of line AT ALL.

take a deep breath.

if you want to write the letter and PM me, I will help you!!! :)

I think getting married is different than taking off time for a holiday.. but then again it just depends on your company and it doesn't sound like they're very flexible. Have you been there for awhile? You could call in "sick" and deal with the consequences....

If it was to care for a sick family member would they let you go? Maybe your great aunt Tilda is in Mexico and has been very ill.. you must go to her bedside immediately!

Sorry I don't have any real suggestions other than talk to someone else.. I mean you're getting married for goodness sakes!

They would have to be inconsiderate assholes to make you cancel your wedding. You are asking for time without pay- I don't think that's setting a big precedent. Stay calm- I'm sure it will get worked out. :) Some people are such B&W turds. Hopefully you can just go above the supervisor's head.

Oh no, I say go for the precedent...you never know until you ask. Employers don't have to give you time off unless it's a FMLA type leave (I *think*) but it would be nice if they all did. Unless you work for some meanies or you do a job that nobody on earth can fill in for, they should let you.

Pursue it and good luck...if all else fails I would call out sick and face the music later, don't let work ruin your wedding!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
